  • Microsoft to open 32 holiday pop-up stores

    New York -- Microsoft Corp. will open 32 pop-up stores in the United States and Canada in time for the holiday shopping season.

    Although the company did not say when the stores would open, it did provide a list of the locations, which include Roosevelt Field Mall, Garden, City, N,Y.; Time Warner Center: The Shops at Columbus Circle, New York City; Perimeter Mall, Atlanta; Oakridge Centre, Vancouver, B.C.; Dadeland Mall, Miami; and San Francisco Centre, San Francisco, to name a few.

     

  • Holiday hiring indicator suggests Merry Christmas

    Retailers plan to hire an increased number of temporary workers this holiday season, according to a survey by the global consulting firm Hay Group.

    "Retailers are betting that 2012 is going to be a great holiday season," said Craig Rowley, vp and global practice leader for Hay Group’s retail practice. "After four years of economic turbulence, they have figured out how to operate in an uncertain business environment and are calm and cool, knowing that they are ready, as they head into the holidays."

  • 7-Eleven Canada stores debut surcharge-free Allpoint Network ATMs

    Bethesday, Md. -- ATM provider Allpoint Network, a Cardtronics affiliate, said Wednesday that it has entered Canada with its agreement with 7-Eleven Canada to host surcharge-free Allpoint Network ATMs in its more than 470 stores in the country.

    Earlier this year, 7-Eleven named Cardtronics its exclusive ATM service provider in Canada.

     

  • Fashion expert to debut jewelry line on HSN

    ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Fashion consultant Fern Mallis will debut a jewelry collection for HSN on Oct. 10.

    The 22-piece assortment features various statement pieces including a show-stopping layered necklace with matching cuff, embellished bangles, chunky necklaces and gem encrusted rings and earrings from $35 to $139.

  • Natural Grocers to open seven stores by spring 2013

    Denver -- Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage said Wednesday it plans to open seven new stores by March 2013, bringing the total count to 64 in 12 states.

    In addition, the company said it has relocated and expanded one of its flagship Denver stores.

    The seven new stores will be opened during the next six months in Sedona, Ariz.; Steamboat Springs, Colo.; Helena and Missoula, Mont.; Omaha, Neb.; and Denton and Lubbock, Texas.

    Global pet care leader Nestle Purina has created a new national contest called "The Friskies" with a $15,000 grand prize that is sure to set off a new round of online cat videos.

    According to the company, many great art forms have awards for the best new work created each year. Films have the Oscars, TV shows have the Emmys and now Internet cat videos have The Friskies.

  • Toys ‘R’ Us holiday plans include 'hot toy' reservations and 150 to 200 pop-up stores

    New York -- Toys “R” Us’ holiday 2012 plans include a “hot toy” reservation program, free and expanded layaway services and offering more exclusive toys from branded manufacturers along with more proprietary products. The nation’s largest specialty toy retailer also will open 150 to 200 temporary locations for the holidays under the Toys “R” Us Express banner.

  • Report: Online experience superior to marketplace shopping

    New York -- A report released Tuesday by e-commerce marketplace technology provider Merchantry found that marketplace customer experience compares unfavorably to that of e-commerce sites, particularly in regard to comprehensiveness of product information and logistics transparency.

    The State of Online Marketplaces report, conducted by Merchantry in concert with the e-tailing group, found that online marketplaces need a lot of improvement before their full potential is realized.
