  • Upscale men’s salon opens at Rice Village

    Houston -- UCR Houston said that The Boardroom for Men will open at Rice Village, in Houston, a shopping center owned by Rice Properties.

    The 2,100-sq.-ft. upscale men’s salon is slated to open June 2013. It will be the chain’s first Houston location.

     

  • Hudson Group launches new travel retail concept

    East Rutherford, N.J. -- Travel retailer Hudson Group, owner of the Hudson News airport stores, said Tuesday it has launched a new retail concept called Hudson, with the first unit slated to open at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport’s Central Terminal.

  • Build-A-Bear Workshop to open 20-25 stores in 2013

    St. Louis -- Build-A-Bear Workshop said Monday that it will open 20 to 25 stores in 2013, all under the newly introduced store design.

    The retailer opened six stores under the new design in fall 2012, and said the success of the stores prompted an escalated rollout.

    The first three stores to open in 2013 are at the Mall of Georgia in Atlanta on April 26; at Orland Square in Chicago on May 3; and at Northshore Mall in Peabody, Mass. on May 10.

    LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. — GS1 US has appointed two supply chain veterans to its industry engagement team. Melanie Nuce has been named VP of apparel and general merchandise and Michael Pheney has been named VP of healthcare.

  • Target warns Q1 profit will fall short of forecast

    Minneapolis -- Target Corp. said Tuesday it will miss its first-quarter profit outlook as seasonal and weather-sensitive items underperformed.
     
    The retailer also said it now expects same-store sales to be flat in the quarter.

    Target’s quarterly results are slated to be reported on May 22.

     

  • Protection programs provider Assurant appoints new SVP

    Assurant Solutions, a leading provider of extended protection programs and services, has appointed Jeff Unterreiner as SVP of its extended protection solutions business. 

    Unterreiner now has overall management responsibilities for the company’s extended service contract and vehicle service contract business. 

  • Sony expanding retail footprint

    San Diego -- Sony Electronics is revving up its retail expansion, opening the doors to three newly remodeled Sony Stores and several brand new Sony Gallery experiences during the past few months. The company also unveiled a smaller-store format called Sony Gallery.

    Following the debut of the redesigned Sony Store in the Simon Mall Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto, Calif., Sony announced it will open three new concept stores located in Miami, San Diego, and Orlando, Fla. The remodels will bring the total of U.S. redesigned stores to eight.

  • Tiffany & Co., New York City

    Tiffany & Co.’s dazzling jewel box in downtown Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood captures the retailer’s signature elegant feel and  heritage of craftsmanship. The interiors of the 7,000-sq.-ft. store, the jeweler's third outpost in New York City, were designed by select artisans who put their own spin on some traditional Tiffany design motifs.
