  • Walgreens fine-tunes senior leadership structure

    Deerfield, Ill. -- Walgreens has restructured its senior leadership, elevating Jim Jensen to VP daily living implementation and space planning, and naming Moe Alkemade as general merchandise manager.

    Beth Stiller has been named group VP retail brands and global sourcing.
     
    All appointments are effective Nov. 4.

  • Divaris signs three leases in Central Va.

    Richmond, Va. — Divaris Real Estate has announced the renewal of three retail leases totaling approximately 9.000 sq. ft. in the Richmond metropolitan area.

    Legacy School of Dance signed a lease for 3,813 sq. ft. of retail space in Colony Plaza in Midlothian, Va. This is the second Richmond area location for the dance studio. Divaris represented the landlord, Colony Crossing. Legacy joins Dolce Vita Restaurant, Best Cleaners, Colony Coffee, Native Sun Tanning, Padows Deli, Fortune Bowl Restaurant and Nail Envy.

  • Safeway to dispose of Dominick’s stores and exit Chicago market

    Pleasanton, Calif. -- Safeway Inc. announced it plans to get rid of its 72 Dominick's stores in the Chicago area, exiting the market in early 2014.

    Safeway’s decision comes after Dominick's had a net loss of $8.4 million for the third quarter, ended Sept. 7, compared with a loss of $6.2 million in the year-ago period, and a net loss of $21.5 million for the year to date, compared with $16.8 million for the year- ago period.

  • To bridge digital divide, Specific partners with Nielsen

    Digital media company Specific Media and Nielsen have joined forces to offer a new platform called Retail Connect designed to address what the firms regard as a gap between offline and online advertising.

    According to Specific Media, the Retail Connect platform will allow for more effective advertising for brands as well as consumers because it leverages Nielsen’s Buyer Insights aggregate data about in-store consumption habits and online behaviors to inform an optimized and efficient approach to online advertising.

  • QVC Germany CEO to retire

    West Chester, Pa. - Dr. Ulrich Flatten will retire as CEO, QVC Germany at the end of the year, after 12 years of service to the company. Under his leadership, Germany has developed into QVC's largest European business and its second largest business outside of the United States.

  • Tractor Supply outlines online strategy

    Tractor Supply CEO Greg Sandfort outlined the company's online strategy, borrowing phrases from trendy multichannel retailers.

    “We have to have our site geared to giving customers the options for any way they like to engage with us,” Sandfort said during the recent Goldman Sachs investor conference.

    New York -- Charter Realty and Development has announced six lease signings totaling 25,855 sq. ft. at the White City Shopping Center in Shrewsbury, Mass.
