  • Feds come calling on Lumber Liquidators

    Fast-growing flooring retailer Lumber Liquidators got an unpleasant surprise on Thursday when representatives from several federal agencies showed up at the company’s Toano, Va., headquarter with search warrants in hand.

  • MinuteClinic enters Hawaii

    Woonsocket, R.I. -- MinuteClinic, a division of CVS Caremark Corporation, will open today its first walk-in medical clinic in Hawaii at the Longs Drug store on South King Street in Honolulu near the University of Hawaii, Manoa. It is the first of seven MinuteClinic locations to open inside select Longs Drug stores on Oahu in the next two weeks.

    Additional clinics will serve patients in Aiea, Hawaii Kai, Kailua, Kaneohe, Kapolei and Waialae.

  • Weather Trends: October 2013

    October 2013 is projected to be the coolest in four years for the U.S. as a whole. Expect colder year-on-year trends across the Northeast and Southwest, especially during retail weeks one, three and four. Wetter trends will encompass the Texas to Louisiana Gulf Coast, where tropical storm and hurricane potential will be the highest should any storms develop this month and threaten the U.S. mainland. The northern tier of the U.S. will trend drier than last year, especially across the Great Lakes.

  • Seasons 52 to open first Colorado location

    Orlando, Fla. — Fresh grill and wine bar Seasons 52 has announced plans to open its first Colorado location in Lone Tree next summer.

    The restaurant offers a piano bar and live music nightly.

  • Finish Line puts up strong Q2 results

    Indianapolis – The Finish Line posted increases in net income, net sales and same-store sales during the second quarter of fiscal 2013. Net income totaled $26.19 million, up 6.1% from about $24.44 million a year earlier.

    Consolidated net sales were $436 million, up 13.3 % from $385 million in the same quarter the previous year. Same-store sales rose 0.9%.

  • Finish Line performs better than expected

    Sales at Indianapolis-based athletic footwear and apparel retailer Finish Line grew 13.3% to $436 million and earnings per share increase 10.2% to 54 cents, nine cents better than analysts forecast for the period ended August 31.

    Company chairman and CEO Glenn Lyon characterized the performance as solid, and credited a 0.9% comp increase and expense control for profit growth.

  • DSW to open new stores in Baltimore, and Lafayette, La.

    Columbus, Ohio — DSW Inc., Designer Show Warehouse has announced two new store openings, one in Baltimore, and another in Lafayette, La.

    DSW operates 385 stores in 42 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

     

  • Whole Foods Market, Detroit

    Whole Foods Market’s core values of local, natural and environmentally responsible commerce are showcased in its store in downtown Detroit. The 21,506-sq.-ft. store, the retailer’s first location in the Motor City, features lower pricing and combines its signature organic and locally-made/grown goods with a larger selection of private-label items and frozen and prepackaged foods.
