  • Survey: Back-to-school shoppers looking for best deals

    Los Angeles -- A new survey by PriceGrabber confirms that consumers are determined to think frugally when shopping for back-to-school this year, with 57% of respondents saying they will attempt to buy more items that are "on sale," while 42% say they will comparison shop for the best price. 

  • Urban Outfitter’s Q2 profit surges 25%

    PHILADELPHIA — Urban Outfitters’ second-quarter net income jumped to $76 million for the three months ended July 31, 2013.

    Total company net sales for the second quarter increased 12% to a record $759 million. Same—store sales, including the company’s direct-to-consumer channel, increased 9%.

    Comparable retail segment net sales increased 38% at Free People, 9% at Anthropologie and 5% at Urban Outfitters. Wholesale segment net sales rose 17%.

  • J.C. Penney, Ackman set terms whereby he can sell stake

    New York -- J. C. Penney disclosed in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing on Friday that it entered into a Registration Rights Agreement with Bill Ackman’s Pershing Square and its affiliates that gives him an out to completely walk away from the company. Under the deal, Ackman can make up to four requests to Penney to register the sale of his restricted common stock.

    "It is paving the way for (Pershing Square) to sell the stock if they choose to do so," Imperial Capital analyst Mary Ross Gilbert said in a Reuters report.

  • Walmart talks omni-channel on Q2 call; testing site-to-store lockers

    New York -- Walmart is expanding its omni-channel integration by testing the use of lockers to fill online orders, company officials said during the chain’s second-quarter earnings call on Thursday.

    “While this test is still in the early stages, the initial read on customer satisfaction and acceptance is very encouraging, with 90% of the customers who have used the service providing positive feedback,” Walmart U.S. CEO Bill Simon said during the call.

  • Disney Store opens Fashion Show Mall location

    Las Vegas -- Disney Store has opened its newest store, located at the Fashion Show Mall in Las Vegas, and featuring a wider array of immersive experiences.

    Grand-opening on Aug. 17, the new Disney Store will include a Disney Princess castle, magical trees, Disney∙Pixar CARS neighborhood and the Disney Store Theater; unique to Las Vegas is a custom skyline on the ceiling with iconic Disney storytelling scenes and Nevada landmarks.

    Online outdoor clothing and gear retailer Moosejaw’s new store in Boston is designed to bring the quirky brand’s “Love the Madness” philosophy to life.    

    Unlike the company’s previous stores, which involved taking over existing retail locations from other retailers, the new space was created specifically to evoke Moosejaw’s irreverent style and establish a brick-and-mortar presence that truly reflects the brand.
