  • Alco's Q1 same-store sales feel lingering winter chill

    ABILENE, Kan. — Lingering winter weather conditions affected broad-line retailer Alco, which reported same-store sales of $112.4 million for the first quarter ended May 5, a 2.2% decrease from $115 million for the same quarter a year ago.

    The company reported net sales from continuing operations for the quarter of $117.5 million, an increase of 0.9% from $116.5 million for the same quarter a year ago.

  • Restoration Hardware reports record Q1 results

    Corte Madera, Calif.  -- Restoration Hardware reported record financial results during the first quarter of fiscal 2013, including a net income of $2.3 million compared to a net loss of $1.3 million in the first quarter of the prior year. The company also named Richard Harvey, who spent 30 years as an executive at Williams-Sonoma, most recently as president of Williams-Sonoma brand, as chief merchandising officer of its RH Kitchen and Tableware line.

    CORTE MADERA, Calif. — Restoration Hardware Holdings has appointed former Williams-Sonoma brand president Richard Harvey as the company's CMO for RH Kitchen and Tableware.

    Harvey spent 30 years at Williams-Sonoma, Inc., most recently as president of the Williams-Sonoma brand. In his new role, Harvey will develop a curated collection of kitchen furniture, appliances, lighting, cookware, tools and food.

  • Family Dollar courts Father's Day shoppers

    MATTHEWS, N.C. — With Father’s Day just around the corner, Family Dollar is touting its small-store format, accessible staff and assorted product offerings to draw shoppers into its stores.

    The value retailer is offering greeting cards, apparel and grills, while reminding shoppers that stores carry not only grills but also charcoal, coolers, hot dogs, hamburgers and even condiments.

  • High-end home retailer Fixtures Living to open first East Coast location

    New York -- Fixtures Living, which specializes in high-end kitchen, bath, outdoor and lifestyle appliances, will open its first East Coast location at Lenox Marketplace in Atlanta. Additional stores are scheduled to open in Glendale, Calif., Chicago and Dallas

    The emerging retailer, whose stores average 27,000 sq. ft., currently has three locations in California, in Costa Mesa, Rancho Mirage and San Diego.
