  • ECRM: Retail circular advertising trends, November 2014

    ECRM compared retail circular advertising in November 2013 vs. November 2014 and noted trends occurring across top retail chains. Home Depot added an additional Black Friday 2014 circular promoting appliances. Home Depot offered deep Black Friday 2014 discounts on microwaves. Staples increased circular pages by +38%, and featured an attractive “Free Kindle eReader with laptop purchase” and a $99 Asus laptop on the Black Friday 2014 circular front. Walgreens had little change in November circular metrics but CVS cut 9 pages; a 10% decline.

    A cruise industry executive is the newest member of the board of directors for Sears Holdings Corp.

  • Ikea taps Inovateus Solar to expand solar array on Detroit-area store

    CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. - Ikea plans to increase the solar array atop its store that opened eight years ago in Canton, Michigan. In September, IKEA began work on a 44,000-sq.-ft. expansion to the store, atop which new panels will be installed beginning spring 2015, with a completion by summer.

  • Academy Service Group expands in Northern New Jersey/New York City area

    Academy Service Group, a nationwide provider of facility maintenance services, has acquired Absolute Maintenance, a Northern New Jersey-based facilities maintenance fleet.

    Academy Service Group offers pest control, cleaning, janitorial, plumbing, handyman and general maintenance services to its portfolio of multi-site facilities and chain store clients. Michael Rose, CEO of Academy Service Group, has stepped up efforts to expand the self-performing reach in Northern New Jersey and New York City region.

  • Home Depot to buy HD Supply hardware wholesaler

    Atlanta - The Home Depot has reached an agreement to purchase HD Supply Hardware Solutions, formerly known as Crown Bolt, a wholesale hardware supplier. The transaction is expected to close by the end of fiscal year 2014 subject to obtaining customary regulatory approvals.

    The Home Depot is HD Supply’s largest customer and accounts for about 98% of its annual sales. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

  • Record-setting Cyber Monday for Walmart—biggest day ever for online orders

    SAN BRUNO, Calif.- It was a very busy Monday—Cyber Monday to be more specific— for Walmart. The discounter said  that Cyber Monday 2014 (Dec. 1) was the biggest online day in its history for orders. Customers viewed more than 1.5 billion pages on Walmart.com between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday.
