Boston -- City Sports said Wednesday it has named Edward Albertian as president and CEO of the 21-store chain.

Albertian joins the company from Trans National Group, where he was president and CEO. He has also served as senior VP retail operations at Staples.

Albertian's appointment follows the departure of City Sports’ previous president and CEO Jeff Connor, who resigned last month.

MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. — Kohl’s Department Stores announced that in support of curing type one diabetes and improving the lives of local children, more than 1,300 Kohl’s associates, friends and family will take part in the JDRF Kohl’s Walk to Cure Diabetes on Sept. 15 at the Milwaukee County Zoo.

The Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas was ranked among the top 30 public undergraduate business schools in the most recent edition of U.S. News & World Report's "Best Colleges 2013."

Richardson, Texas -- Fossil Inc. said Thursday that CFO Michael Kovar will retire effective March 2013 after 13 years with the company.  

Fossil said it has launched a search for Kovar’s successor.

Columbus, Ohio -- DSW Inc. said Thursday that it has been awarded $7.2 million as a result of litigation with its insurance carrier stemming from its credit card data breach in 2005.

The $7.2 million award represents damages plus accrued interest.

In other news, DSW has declared a special dividend totaling $91 million to be paid on Oct. 26 to shareholders. According to president and CEO Mike MacDonald, the special distribution, which is in addition to the regular dividend, represents “significant cash flow generation.”

Matthews, N.C. -- Family Dollar Stores said Wednesday it plans to settle a class-action matter with more than 1,700 New York store managers who filed suit on claims of unpaid overtime wages.

The preliminary settlement provides for a maximum payment of $14 million by Family Dollar. Settlement terms are pending court approval, and the discounter plans to record a fourth quarter charge to cover the costs.

SAN FRANCISCO — Gap Inc. is celebrating the 35th anniversary of Gap Foundation at a special gathering at the company's San Francisco headquarters on Sept. 13.

Washington, D.C. -- The National Retail Federation told a congressional panel Wednesday that the Departments of Health and Human Services, Labor and Treasury have used too much informal guidance and not enough formal rulemaking in developing regulations to implement the new healthcare reform law, complicating retailers’ and other employers’ ability to plan for what will be required in 2014. NRF is concerned that the situation is the latest example of regulatory uncertainty that is hampering businesses’ attempts to expand and create jobs.
