  • RetailMeNot: Most employed Americans will shop at work Cyber Monday

    Austin, Texas -- Nearly nine-in-10 (86%) working consumers plan to spend at least some time shopping or browsing online for gifts during work hours this Cyber Monday. A new RetailMeNot retail trends report also shows that 25% of working Americans plan to actually spend four hours or more shopping online for gifts during work hours that day.

  • Big Lots appoints new merchandising chief

    Big Lots has appointed former Kitchen Collection executive Richard Chene as EVP, chief merchandising officer. Chene will oversee all merchandising and global sourcing strategies and execution, including the development and attraction of talent for the organization.

  • RadioShack names inventory exec

    Fort Worth, Texas – RadioShack has named Mark A. Boerio to the newly created position of senior VP, inventory planning and allocation, effective Dec. 3. He is the latest addition to the new leadership team being assembled by CEO Joseph C. Magnacca as the company executes its strategic plan to reposition the brand, revamp the product assortment, reinvigorate the stores, increase its operational efficiency and enhance financial flexibility.

  • Former Loblaws exec tapped as Shopko CEO

    Shopko has named retail industry veteran Peter McMahon as its new CEO.

    McMahon has more than 30 years of experience in international retail. Most recently McMahon served as the COO at Loblaws. As COO, McMahon was responsible for Loblaws’ supply chain, IT, HR, labor relations, merchandising, store operations and loss prevention functions. Prior to his time at Loblaws, McMahon held senior-level positions at Walmart in Germany and Japan and Tesco in central Europe.

  • Stater Bros. Markets in executive promotion

    San Bernardino, Calif. -- Stater Bros. Markets has announced the promotion of David Harris to the position of executive VP finance, CFO and principal accounting officer of Stater Bros. Markets, effective Nov. 25.
     
    Harris joined Stater Bros. in 2009 as VP finance. In June 2011 he was promoted to senior VP finance, and in 2012 he was promoted to senior VP finance, CFO and principal accounting officer.

    Harris reports to Jack H. Brown, chairman of the board and CEO.

  • McMillon to succeed Duke as Walmart CEO

    Walmart International president and CEO Doug McMillon was given the nod over Walmart U.S. president and CEO Bill Simon to succeed Mike Duke as president of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., the company announced Monday morning.

    McMillon, 47, will join the board effective immediately, and succeed Duke, 63, on February 1, when Walmart’s new fiscal year begins. McMillon’s successor will be named before the end of the fiscal year, according to the company.

  • Loblaw COO named ShopKo CEO

    Green Bay, Wis. -- Shopko on Monday named Peter McMahon, most recently COO of Loblaws, as its new CEO. Loblaws is Canada’s largest food retailer with over $30 billion in sales.

    At Loblaws, McMahon was responsible for supply chain, IT, HR, labor relations, merchandising, store operations and loss prevention functions. Prior to Loblaws, McMahon held various senior level positions with some of the world’s largest retailers, including Wal-Mart in Germany and Japan and Tesco in central Europe.
     

  • Report: N.Y. appeals court says Starbucks baristas must share tips

    Seattle – The Second Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals in New York has reportedly ruled that Starbucks baristas must share their tips with supervisors. According to the Associated Press, the ruling supports a lower court finding that baristas at Starbucks must share tips with shift supervisors, since the supervisors do much of the same work as the baristas.
