  • WinCo opens two new stores Nov. 6

    Boise, Idaho-- WinCo Foods LLC will open two new stores on Thursday, Nov. 6. One store will open in Lewiston, Idaho and one will open in North Richland Hills, Texas. The Lewiston store is 59,400-sq.-ft. in size and will initially employ about 100 individuals, 90 of whom have been hired locally.
  • Fred’s promotes CFO to CEO

    Memphis, Tenn. -- Fred's Inc. named Jerry Shore as its next CEO. Shore has served as the company's executive VP and CFO for more than 14 years. He assumed the additional title of COO in Jan. 2014.   Shore's promotion follows follows notification by current CEO Bruce A. Efird of his intention to leave Fred’s upon the expiration of his contract.   
  • Clickstop gets creative with employee development

    Clickstop, a multi-brand online retailer, has promoted Sarah Watson to Director of Business Development, moving supplies, for the company’s largest online store, USCargoControl.com.

    This promotion is in line with Clickstop’s focus on strength-based approach to employee learning implemented in 2014.  Watson's natural drive to achieve goals, anticipate obstacles, seek consensus and organize work to improve collaboration has propelled her into this new role, according to the company.

  • ABF recipient of unprecedented safety award

    ABF Freight has done something no other company in the trucking industry has done before.

    The Fort Smith, Ark.-based national carrier was awarded the American Trucking Association’s President’s Trophy for the seventh time during the group’s annual safety and human resources conference in Orlando. ABF Freight also received the trucking industry’s most prestigious award in 1984, 1989, 1993, 1998, 2003 and 2010. No other national carrier has earned the award more than five times.

  • Detergent brand Sun restructuring

    Michael Bauersfeld has resigned as Sun Products Corporation’s vp, corporate controller and treasurer to pursue other interests.

    The company has appointed Jody L. Macedonio, currently the company’s vp, finance and planning, to the additional role of treasurer, responsible for all treasury functions at the company including investor relations. 

    Kevin Page, currently the Sun’s director of financial operations has been designated as interim corporate controller.

  • Stiles Realty hires industry vet as senior associate

    Fort Lauderdale, Fla. -- Nicole Messer has joined the retail group of Stiles Realty as senior retail associate. In this role, Messer will focus primarily on developing third-party retail leasing and investment sales business in the Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Miami markets.  
  • The future of Walmart store layout and design

    Veteran Walmart store planner Jay Mitchael is a featured speaker at an upcoming event organized by Doing Business in Bentonville.

    Mitchael, vp of store layout and space productivity at Walmart, is scheduled to speak Thursday, Nov. 13 at the Doing Business in Bentonville event which runs from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. in Rogers, Ark. Among the topics the organization said he will address are changes in store design, current prototype rollout and something called the space capture project.

  • Report: UPS expects six days busier than peak of 2013 holiday season

    Atlanta –- United Parcel Service Inc. (UPS) is reportedly forecasting that six days in the upcoming holiday season will be busier for shipping packages than its busiest day in the 2013 holiday season. According to Bloomberg, UPS predicts it will deliver 585 million packages in December, an 11% year-over-year increase.
