Report: UPS expects six days busier than peak of 2013 holiday season

10/30/2014

Atlanta –- United Parcel Service Inc. (UPS) is reportedly forecasting that six days in the upcoming holiday season will be busier for shipping packages than its busiest day in the 2013 holiday season. According to Bloomberg, UPS predicts it will deliver 585 million packages in December, an 11% year-over-year increase.

UPS expects Monday, Dec. 22 to be its peak shipment day, with more than 34 million packages delivered. The company set its current one-day delivery record of 31 million packages in December 2013. UPS is making preparation including hiring 95,000 temporary workers, compared to 55,000 in 2013, and establishing 15 “mobile delivery villages” with temporary buildings that can dispatch 60-90 vehicles.

UPS also said it will have one extra operating day before Christmas compared to 2013 and is making the Friday after Thanksgiving a full operating day.
