  • BH Properties promotes Steven Jaffe to chief investment officer

    Los Angeles -- BH Properties, a Los Angeles-based firm that specializes in acquiring and repositioning challenged or distressed commercial real estate properties, has announced the promotion of Steven Jaffe to chief investment officer and principal of the firm. In this role, Jaffe is responsible for overseeing the acquisition and disposition strategy of the company as well as the company’s overall growth.

    Jaffe has been with BH Properties for 11 years, previously holding the title of executive VP and general counsel.

  • Starbucks’ Howard Schultz is not running for president

    New York -- Starbucks Corp. founder and CEO — and currently Time Magazine cover boy — Howard Schultz has lots of opinions about politics and the national agenda, but he is not interested in running for president in 2016.

    “I don’t think that’s a solution. I don’t think it ends well,” Schultz told Time in a wide-ranging interview its Feb. 16 edition.   

  • Ex-Victoria's Secret CEO joins Brown Shoe board

    Brown Shoe Company has added the former CEO of Victoria’s Secret to its board of directors. 

    “Adding Lori Greeley -- a well-known and highly-respected leader in retail -- to our board of directors gives us the benefit of her more than 20 years of experience,” said Diane Sullivan, CEO, president and chairman of Brown Shoe Company. “Her energy and passion for the business and her leadership skills will be a welcome addition to our company.”

  • Orchard Supply Hardware opens three new stores

    San Jose, Calif. -- Orchard Supply Hardware announced it has opened three new stores, including a location in Portland, Oregon, and two in California (Irvine, and Cerritos).

    In addition to the 300 jobs these new stores have created, the retailer plans to hire an additional 1,000 associates as it prepares for the busy spring season, and to support its continuing growth.
     

  • Pet expands 'Promise' to homeless families

    PetSmart’s nationally acclaimed initiative to help house the pets of homeless families is expanding.

    PetSmart Promise, which helps temporarily homeless families keep all members of their family together -– including their four-legged family members -– is expanding into 16 PetSmart PetsHotel locations nationwide. PetSmart Promise is the result of a collaboration between PetSmart and Family Promise.

  • Kirkland’s promotes COO to chief role on heels of strong holiday results

    Nashville, Tenn. -- It’s a changing of the guard at Kirkland's. Following its successful holiday performance, the home goods company announced that current president and COO Mike Madden will step into the CEO role, effective Feb. 8. He succeeds Robert Alderson, who will remain on the company’s board, which is being expanded to accommodate his addition.

  • Liquidation dream team gets shot at Target Canada

    It’s the end of an era that never really began for Target Canada as three of the biggest names in the asset disposition world begin store closing sales at Target’s 133 Canadian locations.   Gordon Brothers Group, Hilco Global and Great American Group were the successful bidders at a Jan. 27 auction and secured approval from Target Canada and an order from a Canadian court to manage the store closing process for Target’s 133 Canadian locations.  
  • Sally Beauty COO now in CEO role

    Denton, Texas -- Sally Beauty Holdings announced that president and COO Chris Brickman succeeded Gary Winterhalter as CEO effective on Feb. 1. Winterhalter will continue to serve the company as executive chairman.

    The changes are consistent with the company’s previously announced executive transition plan.
