  • CBRE appoints Steven H. Gartner to managing director of retail

    Philadelphia -- CBRE Group announced that Steven H. Gartner has been appointed to managing director of retail for the Greater Pennsylvania Region. Gartner will lead CBRE’s retail brokerage platform throughout the region, driving growth and creating a cohesive and collaborative service offering for retail clients, as well as continue to actively maintain strategic client relationships both in Philadelphia and across the country.

  • Energy Smarts: Havertys partners with DOE for energy efficiency

    Haverty Furniture Company has been around since the late 19th century, but the specialty furniture retailer has a decidedly 21st century approach to energy management.

    “We want Havertys to be the company everyone wants to come work for,” said Rawson Haverty Jr., senior VP of real estate and development, Havertys, during a session at Chain Store Age’s SPECS 2016 Conference, March 13 – 15, in Dallas.

  • Conn's to open new stores, names new chairman

    Conn’s is planning to make investments in technology, credit and personnel in 2016 as the retailer looks to expand its footprint and improve profitability. 

    For the fourth quarter ended Jan. 31 the retailer said revenues increased 7% to $456.8 million. Same store sales decreased 1.7%. Conn's said its credit segment operating loss increased from $11.3 million to $19.3 million, driven primarily by bad debts.

  • Ex-PwC partner joins Children's Place board

    The Children’s Place has appointed an expert in financial auditing to its board.

    The compay said John E. (“Jeb”) Bachman has been named to the company’s board of directors, effective immediately. Bachman will serve as an independent Class I Director and will stand for election at the 2016 Annual Meeting of Stockholders. Bachman will serve on the audit committee.

  • Dunkin’ Brands exec appointments include digital, supply chain VPs

    Dunkin' Brands Group Inc., the parent company of Dunkin' Donuts and Baskin-Robbins, has promoted five new VPs to its management team.

    Sherrill Kaplan was promoted to VP, digital marketing & innovation for Dunkin' Donuts U.S. Kaplan joined Dunkin' Brands nearly five years ago and has played a lead role in the development and execution of the retailer’s digital strategy and the DD Perks rewards program.

  • Instacart maintains busy 2016 pace

    Online delivery service Instacart is launching its first expansion of 2016 – and it’s a big one.
     
    Instacart is now offering deliveries in as little as one hour from Whole Foods Market, Gelson’s Market, Stater Bros. Markets, Ralphs, Smart & Final, Costco (no membership needed), Petco, and H Mart to residents of Orange County, California. Whole Foods will offer delivery via Instacart at prices that are the same as shoppers find in-stores.
     

  • Sears Holdings hires turnaround specialist as chief administrative officer

    Sears Holdings announced Monday that James Andrew has joined the company in the new role of chief administrative officer. In this position he will be responsible for the company's corporate support functions, including financial planning and analysis, business finance, procurement, legal and human resources.

  • O’Neill Properties Group begins construction on $2.2 billion project

    Sayreville, N.J. -- O’Neill Properties Group announced that it has completed brownfield remediation project at the 40-acre lagoon at The Pointe located in Sayreville, New Jersey. The Pointe is the largest mixed-use brownfield redevelopment ever undertaken in the Northeast with the project costs of $2.2 billion. Vertical construction will begin in spring 2016 on a 200,000-sq. ft. anchor tenant Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, the largest Bass Pro in the country outside of its original flagship operation.
