  • Chico's names new COO

    FORT MEYERS, Fla. — Chico's FAS announced Tuesday that it has appointed Kent Kleeberger to the position of EVP and COO.

    Kleeberger will replace Jeffrey Jones, who is retiring from the company, effective March 7. Jones will serve as part-time consultant to the company during a transition period.

    Kleeberger, 58, has served as EVP finance and CFO of Chico's FAS since joining the company in November 2007. Previously, he was SVP and CFO for Dollar Tree Stores.

  • DLC leasing duo receive certifications

    Tarrytown, N.Y. -- DLC Management Corp. said Tuesday that two of its Northeast Leasing team members have successfully achieved the Certified Leasing Specialist (CLS) designation from the International Council of Shopping Centers.

    Evan Podob, VP -- director of Northeast leasing, and Christopher Ressa, senior leasing representative -- Northeast, received their certifications in January.
     

  • Store closures impact TJX's profit

    FRAMINGHAM, Mass. — TJX Cos. reported a 15% drop in fourth-quarter earnings, dragged down by costs to close its A.J. Wright store division. The company also plans to repurchase $1.2 billion of its stock this fiscal year and raise its dividend.

    The retailer earned $334.4 million in the three months ended Jan. 29, compared with $394.9 million in the same period last year.

    Revenue rose 6.5% to $6.33 billion. Same-store sales were up 2% over the prior year’s strong 12% increase.

  • AisleBuyer names new VPs

    BOSTON -- Mobile checkout solutions provider AisleBuyer has added two new VPs to its executive team.

    Paul Harsha, VP engineering, and Scott Almeida, CPA, VP finance and administration, are the newest additions to AisleBuyer.

  • Chico's names exec VP/COO

    Fort Myers, Fla. -- Chico's FAS announced Tuesday that it has appointed Kent A. Kleeberger to the position of executive VP, COO. 

    Kleeberger will replace Jeffrey A. Jones, who is retiring from the company effective March 7. Jones will serve as part-time consultant to the company during a transition period.

    Kleeberger, 58, has served as executive VP-finance and CFO of Chico's FAS since joining the company in November 2007. Previously, he was senior VP and CFO for Dollar Tree Stores.

  • Zale appoints David F. Dyer to board

    Dallas -- Zale Corp. said Tuesday that it has appointed David F. Dyer, chairman, president and CEO of Chico’s FAS, to its board of directors, effective immediately.

    The company also announced the resignation from the board of Charles M. Sonsteby, who had served since November 2006.

  • A new approach to guide political donations

    The Associated Press is reporting that Target has revised its policy governing political donations following a flap last year that tarnished the company’s progressive image. Target drew the wrath of gay rights activists after it was revealed the company donated $150,000 to a business group that supported Minnesota’s conservative Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer who is an opponent of gay marriage and other gay rights initiatives.

  • Appearances are everything in pricing discrepancies

    Enterprising television reporters at KGTV in San Diego caused Walmart some grief this week when they uncovered that prices were ringing up incorrectly on some items and customers were not being offered a $3 refund in keeping with a 2008 court order.
