  • Smoothie King plans 1,000 new stores by 2018

    New Orleans -- Smoothie King Franchises is targeting the Jacksonville, Fla., metro area to kick off a major expansion calling for 1,000 new franchised and corporate locations over the next five years.

    With seven stores in Jacksonville, the company plans to add 10 new locations there over the next three years.

    To fuel the national expansion drive, Smoothie King is offering candidates 40% off of its initial franchise fee for the first 40 agreements of 2013 — a savings of $10,000.

  • Global Baristas acquires Tully’s Coffee Shops

    Seattle -- TC Global (dba Tully’s Coffee Shops) has announced the completion of the sale of substantially all of its assets to Global Baristas, an investment group led by Patrick Dempsey. Global Baristas bought the assets in an auction in bankruptcy court last January. The company plans to continue to operate Tully’s Coffee Shops and to retain all of the employees.

  • Starbucks tests new drink options

    Seattle – Starbucks is testing new drink options including handmade sodas and a coffee beverage known as “cold foam mocha.” As reported by the Starbucks Melody blog (which is not affiliated with the retailer), last month Starbucks began the second phase of a carbonated beverage test including proprietary root beer and ginger ale at select locations in Atlanta and Austin.

  • Voila Pastry & Café signs with Huntington Station

    Alexandria, Va. -- Voila Pastry & Café has leased 1,600 sq. ft. in Huntington Station Shopping Center in Alexandria, Va.

    Paraclete Realty represented Voila Pastry, and A.J. Dwoskin & Associates represented the shopping center in the transaction.

     

  • Krispy Kreme opens 100th Cancun store

    Winston-Salem, N.C. -- Working with franchise partner Taco Holding, S.A. de C.V, Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation will open its 100th store in Cancun, Mexico, on July 6. The store will feature Krispy Kreme's new international café-style store design, including hot doughnuts, barista specialists, a kid's zone and a drive-thru.

  • OliverMcMillan secures Buckhead Atlanta construction loan

    Atlanta -- Developer OliverMcMillan has secured a $167 million syndicated construction loan, led by PNC Capital Markets, LLC, to finance construction of Buckhead Atlanta, the mixed-use retail, residential and office development located in Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood.

    The loan will cover the full construction of the six-block, 8-acre complex. Five lenders are involved, including PNC Bank, N.A., CIT Finance LLC, Compass Bank, Regions Bank and SunTrust Banks.

  • GNC elects Feldman, Doran as directors

    Pittsburgh – GNC Holdings Inc. has elected Alan D. Feldman and Robert F. Moran to its board of directors. Feldman most recently served as chairman, president and CEO of Midas Inc. from May 2006 until its merger with TBC Corporation in May 2012 and as its president and CEO from January 2003 until May 2006.  Prior to that, Feldman held senior management posts at McDonald's Corporation and the Pizza Hut and Frito-Lay units of Pepsico. Feldman also currently serves on the board of directors of Foot Locker Inc.

  • Hyde Park Village signs 10 new retailers

    Tampa, Fla. -- Madison Marquette Retail Services has announced the opening of five new retailers with five more to come this year at its Hyde Park Village shopping center in Tampa, Fla.

    The five open retailers include a 1,430-sq.-ft. Francesca’s Collections and four local and regional names: Betty with 1,000 sq. ft., a 939-sq.-ft. Don Me Now Styling & Clothing Lounge, FITniche with 2,251 sq. ft. and Piquant, a French restaurant and bakery, which took 5,397 sq. ft.
