  • Krispy Kreme taps Papa John’s exec as president/CEO

    Winston-Salem, N.C. – Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. has named Anthony N. (“Tony”) Thompson, 47, as president and CEO, effective June 1. Thompson joins the company from Papa John’s International Inc., where he most recently served as president and COO.

  • New CFO and VP of ops for Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf

    The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf has appointed Karen Cate as CFO and Jeff Schroeder as VP of operations.

    Cate was the VP, controller of Trader Joe's Company, where she was responsible for the integrity of financial processes and reporting for the retail grocery store, warehouses and distribution operations. She has also held financial management positions for Sun Microsystems, Nestlé USA and Avery Dennison Corporation.

  • Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf names CFO; VP operations

    Los Angeles -- The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf has named Karen Cate as CFO and Jeff Schroeder as VP operations.

    Cate most recently served as the VP controller of Trader Joe's Company, where she was responsible for the integrity of financial processes and reporting for the retail grocery store, warehouses, and distribution operations.

    Schroeder brings more than 30 years of experience with large multi-unit operations in the restaurant industry. He most recently served as VP brewery restaurants for Karl Strauss Brewing Company.

  • Domino’s introduces online group ordering tool

    Ann Arbor, Mich. – Domino’s Pizza has developed the Group Ordering Tool as an online feature that calculates an estimate of the number of pizzas needed to feed a specific amount of people. Domino's customers who use the Group Ordering Tool will also receive a discount on the menu price of their pizzas.

  • Study: Fast-casual eateries gaining market share

    Chicago - The fast-casual segment continues to obtain share from full-service chains and drive limited-service growth, making up 15% of the $231 billion limited-service restaurant segment. The “Top 150 Fast-Casual Chain Report” from Technomic shows that fast-casual sales increased 11% in 2013, while all limited-service chains grew by only 3.5%.

  • Miracle Mile Shops plans major redevelopment

    Las Vegas — Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino has begun planning efforts to convert a 60,000-sq.-ft. area on Harmon Avenue along the center’s south end into a dining and entertainment destination.

  • Survey: Two-thirds of consumers to buy gift cards in spring, summer

    Washington, D.C. -- More than two-thirds of U.S. shoppers will buy gift cards during the spring and summer seasons, according to a just-released survey by the Retail Gift Card Association.

    Buying occasions include Mother’s Day, graduation and weddings. Key findings of the RGCA spring and summer gift card study, which polled more than 1,100 American shoppers, include:

  • Present Value Properties names new executive VP

    Tustin, Calif. — Present Value Properties, a real estate brokerage and consultant, has appointed real estate veteran Bradley O. Whitaker executive VP. His responsibilities include expanding investment acquisitions and sales, develop partners and look for opportunities. In addition, he will open the firm’s first Utah office.
