  • Amazon.com reassures investors with big buyback

    With its share price in free fall after badly missing analysts’ fourth quarter profit estimate, Amazon.com has decided to spend billions buying back its own shares.

    Amazon.com disclosed in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that it named a new board member and its board authorized the company to repurchase up to $5 billion worth of the company’s common stock. The new authorization replaces an existing $2 billion authorization that was approved in 2010, of which only $1.237 had been expended.

  • Michael Kaider has been named to CBRE’S Net Lease Property Group

    Chicago -- CBRE announced that Michael Kaider, first VP, has been named to the firm’s Net Lease Property Group.

    CBRE’s Net Lease Property Group is a select team of senior level capital markets professionals that specialize in the sale, purchase and recapitalization of single-tenant, net leased properties throughout the United States.

  • Apple Pay use lags awareness

    Consumers know about Apple Pay, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they are conducting mobile payments with it.

    According to a December 2015 survey of 1,300 U.S. household financial decision-makers, including 580 iPhone 6 users, conducted by First Annapolis Consulting Inc. awareness of Apple Pay is quite high. Among all survey respondents, 73% have heard of Apple Pay, while awareness jumps up to 84% for the sub-group of iPhone 6 owners.

  • Westwood Financial appoints 20-year veteran as CFO

    Los Angeles -- Westwood Financial Corp. appointed Jeanne Lazar as CFO. Lazar joins the company with more than 20 years of diverse commercial real estate finance experience. As CFO, Lazar will oversee all finance and accounting functions, including portfolio performance review and the development of financial and operational strategies.

    “I’m honored to join Westwood Financial Corp. and look forward to working with the team to further the company’s goals to grow and expand in the grocery-anchored retail space,” said Lazar.

  • CBL completes sale of majority interest in North Carolina property

    Chattanooga, Tenn. -- CBL & Associates Properties announced that it closed on a new 10/90 joint venture for Triangle Town Center and Commons in Raleigh, North Carolina, with DRA Advisors. The new joint venture acquired the property from the existing 50/50 joint venture between CBL and The Richard E. Jacobs Group for a total consideration of $174.0 million, including assumption of a $171.1 million loan secured by the property. CBL now holds a 10% ownership position in the asset and is responsible for leasing and managing, earning customary fees.

  • PayPal names company veteran CTO

    Global technology platform and payments provider PayPal Holding, Inc. has appointed VP of global payments infrastructure (GPI) Sri Shivananda as the company’s new senior VP and CTO, effective April 1.

    Shivananda’s appointment follows the decision by current CTO James Barrese, to step down to take time off. Barrese will remain with PayPal for a period of time to support a smooth transition period.

  • Online retail growth focus of new index

    Some of the biggest names in e-commerce are part of a new investor index designed to track the performance of the online retail market.

    San Diego-based EQM Indexes LLC, created the index (ticker symbol: IBUYXT) to track the combined performance of 40 to 50 global stocks that derive at least 70% of their revenue from online retail and virtual commerce including the online retail, online marketplace and online travel market segments. The companies that make up the index can be seen here.

  • CEO, CFO and two others resign following audit committee review

    New York -- Brixmor Property Group announced today that it has named Daniel Hurwitz, former CEO of DDR Corp. and the founder and CEO of Raider Hill Advisors as Interim CEO, effective immediately. Hurwitz will also be appointed to serve on the company's board of directors.

    The company also announced that CEO Michael Carroll, president and CFO Michael Pappagallo, and chief accounting officer Steven Splain, along with an accounting employee, have resigned, effective immediately. Carroll has also stepped down from the company's board of directors.
