  • IRI appoints new international president

    Information Resources, Inc. (IRI) has named former Carrefour Group executive José Carlos González-Hurtado as president of International.

    González-Hurtado will be responsible for the strategy and execution of all IRI services in international markets, including Europe, Asia Pacific, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand.

  • Bud Light’s World Cup campaign woos Latinos

    During the World Cup, Bud Light will donate to the Hispanic Scholarship Fund for each goal scored, up to $250,000. Though Budweiser is the official Beer of the World Cup, 2014 is the first year that Bud Light has been a partner of the month-long event.

    "Integrating our sponsorship with education is at the core of our company values,” Bud Light Brand Manager Miguel Nigrinis said. “It's a winning recipe for Latinos that aspire to hold a university degree.”

  • Michaels drives traffic with in-store adventures

    Michaels has teamed with seven leading North American museums to create Passport to Imagination 2014, a low-cost, in-store summer program where kids ages 5-12 explore culture through crafting.

  • Report: Target testing in-store college registries

    New York -- Target is testing a registry program designed specifically for students heading off to college, according to a report by TheStreet. The college registry, available in some 40 stores, offers a variety of categories, including furniture, storage & organization, electronics, décor, bedding and bath.

    The new service is high-tech and student friendly, using iPads instead of in-store kiosks. To select items throughout the store, the customer uses an iPod Touche instead of the typical scanning gun.

  • Starbucks to provide free college education for thousands of workers

    New York -- Starbucks Corp. is launching an innovative program in partnership with Arizona State University (ASU) whereby the coffee giant will help pay for the cost of an online degree for its part-time and full-time associates who work at least 20 hours a week. In a twist from the standard tuition reimbursement program, Starbucks employees who participate in the program will not be obligated to stay on with the company after graduation.

  • Campbell adds Pitney Bowes CEO to board

    Campbell Soup Company has elected Marc B. Lautenbach to its board.

    Lautenbach has been president and CEO of Pitney Bowes since Dec. 2012. Under his leadership, Pitney Bowes is diversifying its portfolio beyond its core mailing business and moving into adjacent growth areas, such as digital commerce.

  • Katy Perry to help Staples ‘Roar’ this BTS season

    Staples' secret weapon this back-to-school season looks to be Katy Perry. The retailer recently aligned itself with the pop mega-star who has the potential to influence the shopping behavior of 50 million Twitter followers and 71 million Facebook fans.

    Staples said it will be the presenting sponsor of the North American leg of Perry’s Prismatic World tour when it resumes on June 22 in Raleigh, N.C., and also donated $1 million to the DonorsChoose.org charitable organization which helps fund teachers’ and students’ classroom needs.

  • Kroger recognized for disability hiring efforts

    Cincinnati — The Kroger Co. has been named Employer of the Year by the Marriott Foundation for People with Disabilities. The Marriott Foundation for People with Disabilities fosters the employment of young people with disabilities.
