Macy’s to close 14 stores in 2026 — here are all the locations
Macy’s Inc. continues to shrink the footprint of its namesake nameplate.
As part of its ongoing plan to close underproductive locations, the department store giant will close 14 stores across 12 states (locations at end of article). The closures were first reported by Axios.
In a memo to employees, Macy’s CEO Tony Spring provided an update on the retailer’s ongoing “Bold New Chapter” strategy, which was launched in February 2024 and includes closing about 150 underperforming nameplate stores. It also includes investments to upgrade select existing Macy's locations and expanding its Bloomingdale's and Blue Mercury banners. (In 2025, Macy’s closed approximately 66 stores as part of its strategy.)
“In executing our strategy, we continue to review our portfolio and make careful decisions about where and how we invest, including closing underproductive stores and streamlining operations,” Spring wrote in the memo. “These decisions are not made lightly.”
“These targeted changes allow us to focus where it will have the greatest impact — reimagining our best stores, enhancing customer service, expanding our luxury business, and advancing our supply chain capabilities,” he continued.
In the memo, Spring noted that Macy’s upgraded stores (“Reimagine Stores”) continue to outperform, growing comp sales 2.7% in the third quarter — “proving the success of elevated merchandising, store design, and customer experience investments.”
