Hy-Vee leverages Instacart for same-day fulfillment

Hy-Vee is extending its collaboration with Instacart.

Hy-Vee Inc. is expanding its partnership with Instacart to support same-day delivery in its owned and operated websites and apps.

The regional Midwest grocery/convenience chain initially teamed up with Instacart in 2018 to offer same-day deliveries in as little as an hour from the Instacart site and app. Now, Hy-Vee is utilizing hosted the fulfillment capabilities of Instacart via the grocery technology company’s Fulfillment as a Service (FaaS) offering.

By plugging Instacart fulfillment technology into its existing e-commerce operation via API, Hy-Vee obtains the flexibility to utilize Instacart for same-day fulfillment to ensure it can meet escalating demand for same-day delivery of orders placed through its own digital and mobile commerce storefronts.

These include two websites the grocer launched in January 2022, HyVeeDeals.com and ShopPetship.com with ship-to-home services available across the country, as well as its Aisles Online omnichannel grocery ordering service.

Instacart technology partner Upshop facilitated the integration of the company’s Fulfillment as a Service solution into Hy-Vee's e-commerce operations. Instacart technology also allows Hy-Vee to accept EBT SNAP as a payment method online via the Instacart app.

"We're proud to strengthen our partnership with Hy-Vee and equip them with the technology and tools they need to meet customers' needs," said Ryan Hamburger, VP of retail partnerships at Instacart. "Our goal is to empower our partners and offer seamless and personalized shopping experiences. We've spent more than a decade focusing on the care and craft of grocery and are continuing to push the envelope by creating even more fulfillment solutions that help our retail partners grow and meet the evolving needs of their customers and businesses."

Headquartered in West Des Moines, Iowa, Hy-Vee Inc. is an employee-owned corporation operating more than 550 retail stores across eight Midwestern states – Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
