Food Lion taps internal exec as new president

Greg Finchum will be the next president of Food Lion.

Food Lion is promoting an operations executive to replace its outgoing president.

The regional Southeast and Mid-Atlantic grocery retailer, a banner of Ahold Delhaize USA, has announced that Greg Finchum, who currently serves the company as executive VP, retail operations, will assume the role of president in May 2025.

Finchum will replace current Food Lion president Meg Ham, who recently announced that she will retire on May 2, 2025, after more than 35 years with Ahold Delhaize USA. The company had previously said that a successor for Ham would be announced before year-end.

Finchum joined Food Lion in 1989 and has been in his current role for more than a decade. According to Food Lion, he is a “proven leader in delivering consistent sales growth and strong financial performance.”

Other accomplishments credited to Finchum include building brand loyalty among customers and creating emotional connections between associates and the brand. He also played a key role in the strategic repositioning of Food Lion and has continued to lead brand initiatives during his tenure.

Finchum has served in his current position as executive VP of retail operations since 2013. Other executive roles he has held within the company since 2006 include director of retail labor and standard practices, VP of retail services, VP of strategy and business planning, and executive VP of retail operations.

Salisbury, N.C.-based Food Lion operates more than 1,100 stores throughout 10 southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states, with 82,000-plus associates. Ahold Delhaize USA’s other banners include Giant Food, The Giant Company, Hannaford and Stop & Shop.
