First Look: Lids expands HD store concept to Los Angeles area
Lids is expanding a format based on an e-commerce concept it launched in 2022.
The retailer has opened Lids HD at Los Cerritos Center, a shopping center in Cerritos, Calif. The 1,055-sq.-ft. store will lean into key trends with exclusive and limited-availability headwear products. It’s the fourth physical location for the concept, with the first opening in Queens, N.Y. (The others are in Houston and St Louis.)
In 2022, Lids unveiled Lids HatDrop.com, an online site featuring limited-edition and exclusive headwear collections, with products dropped twice weekly. In keeping with the online concept, Lids HD stores feature exclusive and limited-edition hat drops, and cater to both headwear enthusiasts as well those who are just starting to build their collections.
At the Los Cerritos store, digital screens showcase Lids’ content and highlight the latest product drops. Shoppers can also customize their headwear with an array of designs. The store also displays a mural made by multimedia artist Joshua Vides.
The Lids Foundation will match a portion of all in-store purchases made at the Lids HD LA store from Friday, March 28 through Sunday, March 30 to Goods Sports’ “Restore Play LA Recovery Fund.” It helps provide critical sports equipment, apparel and footwear to LA-area youth who were impacted by the recent wildfires, helpings kids return to the sports they love.
“We’re thrilled to support the opening of the new Lids HD store in Los Angeles, bringing an elevated shopping experience to the heart of the city,” said Sarah Lim, executive drector of the Lids Foundation. “In light of the recent Palisades fires, we’re committed to giving back to our community by donating a portion of our proceeds to Good Sports to support their youth sports programs and help rebuild stronger together.”
Indianapolis-based Lids Sports Group carries officially licensed and branded gear and operates stores under the Lids, Lids HD, Locker Room by Lids, Fanzz, Yankees Clubhouse Shops, Dodgers Clubhouse, Cardinals Clubhouse, and numerous other nameplates.
