First Look: Gymshark goes big for its first-ever U.S. flagship
UK athleticwear retailer Gymshark has opened its first U.S. flagship as it continues to plant roots in the U.S.
Located on Bond Street in New York City’s SoHo neighborhood, the three-floor, 13,000-sq.-ft. store features the cult-fave gymwear brand’s latest collections, with “bespoke bodegas" offering exclusive New York merchandise. The city’s heritage of neighborhood and community is reflected throughout the space, which has a color scheme of “Liberty Green.” In a nod to the Financial District, there are tickers showing the latest news, offers and updates.
Even the cash registers take inspiration from the city with the registers housed in subway cars. The store’s mannequins are 3D-printed versions of real members of the Gymshark community and its iconic athletes. A specially crafted “pizza weight plate” honors New York City’s famed pizzerias.
Gymshark said it is bringing its signature “1-2-1” shopping service to the store so that aspiring lifters and athletes can ensure they are outfitted in the best gear to help them achieve their fitness goals.
The flagship is also designed as a space where the community can come together and learn. The third floor features dedicated space for community activations such as panel discussions, athlete meet-and-greets, live podcasts and Q&A sessions.
The opening of the flagship follows the debut of Gymshark’s first permanent U.S. store, at Roosevelt Field Mall, Garden City, N.Y., in November. In 2024, the brand opened its U.S. headquarters, in New York City. Also that year, Gymshark hosted its biggest-ever event, Lift:NY at Manhattan’s Pier 36, which attracted over 7,500 members of the fitness community for a weekend of lifting and training with friends.
“In the entirety of Gymshark’s existence, two things have remained constant - the gym, naturally, and community,” said T Mitch Healey, retail and wholesale director North America, Gymshark. “I don’t think any city in the world places as much importance on community quite like New York. So, when it came to opening our flagship here, we really wanted to honor that. The store has really been designed with two things in mind: When you walk through the door you know immediately that you are in a Gymshark store and you feel the community vibe that this city is so famous for.”
In October, the company tapped Dick’s Sporting Goods as its first U.S. wholesale partner.
