Gymshark to open first U.S. location — with another on the way
A prominent U.K.-based athleticwear brand is entering the New York City metro area in time for the holidays.
Gymshark will open its first permanent U.S. location on Oct. 11, at the Roosevelt Field shopping center in Garden City, N.Y. It comes ahead of Gymshark’s flagship opening on Bond Street in the NoHo area of Manhattan later this year.
The 4,000-sq.-ft.-plus Roosevelt Field store will act as the blueprint for Gymshark's future stores in U.S. malls and shopping centers. It will carry all the brand's lines, along with its signature destination zones for shorts and leggings. It will also feature Gymshark's iconic mannequins, which are sculpted based on real members of its community or ambassador roster.
Last year, in December, Gymshark opened a pop-up on Wooster Street in SoHo that remained open through the end of January. Also last year, the company hosted an event, called Lift: NY, which attracted more than 7,500 people to Pier 36 in Manhattan for a weekend of workouts.
“To open our first permanent store in the U.S. is a hugely significant moment for us,” said Hannah Mercer, general manager, wholesale and retail, at Gymshark. “I’m naturally delighted about opening at such a prestigious location as Roosevelt Field and the high footfall that comes with it."
Gymshark has opened four other core stores during the past 12 months or so.
"What we’ve done here is look at the successes in them – such as staffing models, operational excellence optimization, the traffic and footfall, the destinations – and apply them to this [store]," added Mercer.
Gymshark currently operates six retail stores. The brand has four locations in the U.K., and recently opened its first international locations in Dubai and Amsterdam.

Founded in 2012, Gymshark’s loyalty program has over 20 million members across over 200 countries.
