EXCLUSIVE Q&A: Janie and Jack expands digital offering with marketplace

Janie and Jack digital marketplace
Janie and Jack has a new digital marketplace.

A specialty childrenswear brand is enhancing its e-commerce site with new product categories via a new third-party marketplace.

Janie and Jack is launching the marketplace, which will allow third-party sellers to seamlessly integrate their products into the retailer's e-commerce site, in partnership with digital marketplace technology provider Mirakl. The new marketplace will expand Janie and Jack’s online offerings beyond clothing with curated products that include home furnishings & décor, toys, health & wellness, and kids and baby gear.

Parnell Eagle, president and chief commercial officer of Janie and Jack, recently spoke with Chain Store Age about the strategic motivations for this entry into the digital marketplace space.

What made Janie and Jack decide to launch a marketplace?

Janie and Jack has always been committed to evolving alongside our customers, anticipating their needs as their families grow. Our new marketplace is a natural extension of this brand promise, offering a thoughtfully curated selection. More than just an expansion, this new launch is a key step in our digital transformation, and reinforces our vision to be the ultimate destinations for families today and in the future.

What results does Janie and Jack hope to achieve?

We’re thrilled to take Janie and Jack beyond fashion, curating a marketplace that reflects the needs of today’s families. This launch is about more than just expanding our assortment–it’s about creating a seamless, elevated shopping experience that brings together brands that share a commitment to quality and style. We’re actively seeking partners who share in our vision, with the goal of becoming the go-to destination for modern families.

Looking ahead, Alex Hase, GM of the Americas, Mirakl, said in emailed commentary to Chain Store Age that in 2025 retailers will add AI to their third-party marketplaces to improve the overall customer experience.

"Whether it's for improving product data for more accurate descriptions and ultimately  lower returns, streamlining back-end processes to improve operation efficiencies, or tying personalization and retail media networks into the e-commerce experience to generate better recommendations and more sales, retailers will integrate AI into their marketplaces," said Hase.
