DoorDash Inc. is running a five-week campaign to promote its DashPass subscription program.

Starting Thursday, July 21, the online delivery platform is kicking off its third annual and largest-ever “Summer of DashPass” promotion. The five-week event features more than 25,000 member-only offers, which DoorDash says are worth more than $40 million in savings, from partner businesses including Walgreens, Office Depot, Grocery Outlet, Chipotle, Magnolia Bakery, and Cardenas Market.

DashPass is DoorDash's paid membership program that offers $0 delivery fees, reduced service fees, and member-only benefits on eligible orders. During the Summer of DashPass promotion, new members will receive 50% off their first order (up to $15). In addition, while the event is ongoing, new members can sign up for the annual plan for just $59 for the year instead of the usual $96 annual fee.

DoorDash accelerates global growth
DoorDash is launching this major promotion of its paid membership program as it looks to become a major global player in the online delivery space. In June 2022, DoorDash completed the acquisition of Helsinki, Finland-based online delivery platform Wolt Enterprises Oy. This purchase brings DoorDash to operations a total of 27 countries, including the U.S., making the company one of the largest online food delivery providers in the world outside of China.

DoorDash has also been expanding its suite of first-party platform services. In March 2022, the company entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Bbot, a start-up offering hospitality solutions such as in-store digital ordering and payments. This also includes the February 2022 introduction of flower delivery.

And in December 2021, the company introduced ultrafast grocery delivery in New York City via its DashMart online convenience storefront. Introduced in August 2020, the DashMart banner offers both household essentials and local restaurant products for on-demand delivery.

In September 2021, DoorDash began enabling customers in select markets to toggle to the alcohol tab of the DoorDash app to browse and order from an assortment of alcoholic beverage products from restaurants, grocery stores, local retailers, and convenience stores.

DoorDash is also attempting to increase its standing in its competition for market size and financial standing with Instacart, which recently filed a registration statement to go public with the SEC. Instacart also recently relaunched its previous Instacart Express subscription service as Instacart+.

“DoorDash provides access to the best in your neighborhood and a DashPass membership unlocks that access at the most affordable price. During last year's Summer of DashPass event, DashPass members saved over $4 million on deals and we're proud to partner with national and local businesses to provide access to more than $40 million in exclusive savings this year," said Christopher Payne, president, DoorDash. "Our largest Summer of DashPass yet will bring even more value to our members to save on essential items from groceries to school supplies and beyond."
