DoorDash launches shopping, gifting features in time for holidays

DoorDash is timing a number of new customer offerings for the start of the holiday season.

The on-demand delivery provider is unveiling new features including a redesigned shopping experience, a faster way to build grocery baskets, a streamlined gift card shopping experience, and personalized gift-giving.

Highlights of these new options include:

  • Customers can search for an item across multiple retailers on the DoorDash platform, with prices and estimated delivery times displayed all in one view. DoorDash is starting with alcohol and rolling out the update nationwide across retail categories including beauty and electronics in the coming months. 
  • Customers can import their grocery list from the iOS Reminders app or paste their grocery list into the DoorDash app to add items to their cart.
  • DoorDash has teamed up with “Bon Appétit” magazine to provide free access to a variety of dishes, with the ability to have ingredients delivered by choosing a recipe from the DoorDash catalog, tapping the option to “shop the recipe,” and selecting a nearby store for fulfillment.
  • In 2021, the company introduced DoubleDash, which enables customers to add items from an additional store to their order after checkout with no additional delivery fee. Now, DoorDash is allowing customers to add items from multiple nearby stores to their order before they check out. 
  • A new package pickup feature lets customers request a driver to pick up prepaid packages from their home and drop them off at a local UPS, FedEx, or USPS location for a flat fee.

  • A gifting experience allows customers to send gifts, including membership in the DashPass subscription program, with personalized notes.
  • Customers can purchase physical and digital gift cards from hundreds of retailers, including DoorDash gift cards, all in the same place, and select whether they want it delivered electronically or to their front door. 
  • DoorDash is introducing a new, one-year discounted DashPass plan for SNAP/ EBT recipients. Eligible customers who sign up for the plan can receive one year of DashPass benefits, such as$0 delivery fees and reduced service fees on eligible orders, as well as exclusive offers, for $4.99/month.

In addition, For Black Friday and Cyber Monday, DoorDash is offering an extra $20 off retail orders of $60 or from Friday, Nov. 29 to Thursday, Dec. 5.

Less time braving the stores means more time for what really matters – snacking on peppermint bark, cozying up by the fire, and spending time with loved ones"
