Done Deal: Parent company of Coldwater Creek, Soft Surroundings acquired
CW Holdings has a new owner.
The parent company of Coldwater Creek and Soft Surroundings has been acquired by Nexus Capital Management, which bought the brands from Hong Kong-based sourcing and supply chain firm Newtimes Group. Coldwater Creek and Soft Surroundings operate two complementary women's apparel and lifestyle brands serving women 45 and older through e-commerce sites and catalogs.
Newtimes acquired Coldwater Creek’s assets in September 2020 after the women’s apparel and accessories retailer shut down in July of the same year. The brand was subsequently relaunched as an online-first, direct-to-consumer and catalog brand. In 2023, Coldwater Creek acquired bankrupt Soft Surroundings.
"Coldwater Creek and Soft Surroundings are brands with decades of heritage and customers who have stayed with them for years,” said David Walde, CEO of Coldwater. “We are proud of the brands and the team behind them, and this partnership marks an exciting new chapter for our company.” Nexus shares our belief in what makes these brands special, and with their support we will continue investing in our product, the experience we deliver for our customers and the ways we reach new ones."
Nexus is an alternative asset investment management company based in Los Angeles. It has a diverse portfolio that includes Toms, Lamps Plus, FTD, Dollar Shave Club, Laird Super Foods, Hostess Brands and others.
