Dick’s Sporting Goods to hire the most seasonal workers in its history
Dick’s Sporting Goods is going on a holiday hiring spree.
The athletic apparel and equipment retailer, which recently reported a record-breaking second quarter with a 19.2% increase in same-store sales, plans to hire up to 10,000 seasonal workers for the holiday season, the most in its history. In 2020, Dick's added approximately 9,000 seasonal employees.
Dick's will host its fourth annual National Signing Day on September 15. The retailer said the seasonal workers will help fulfill curbside contactless pickup and ship-from-store orders as well as thoroughly staff areas inside and outside the store throughout the holiday season. Dick’s also will look to hire up to 250 employees to fulfill seasonal staffing needs in all five of its nationwide distribution centers.
The company also announced that all its stores will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. As of July 31, Dick’s operated 731 namesake locations across the United States, in addition to stores under the Golf Galaxy, Field & Stream and Public Lands banners.

Many experts are predicting a robust holiday shopping season for 2021, as consumers who have been restraining their spending due to the COVID-19 pandemic and receiving government stimulus payments are expected to splurge on holiday gifts and expenses. The Michaels Companies Inc. will hire over 20,000 seasonal positions across its U.S. and Canada stores and distribution centers, up from 16,000 last year.
