Dick's continues House of Sport expansion — here's where

Dick's House of Sport
Dick's Sporting Goods operates more than 850 locations nationwide.

Dick’s Sporting Goods is bringing its experiential retail concept to two new markets — including its first entry in the Golden State.

The retailer will open its first House of Sport location in California at The Valley (formerly Mission Valley Shopping Center) in San Diego. The store will occupy the 158,000-sq.-ft. historic former Macy’s building, making it one of the largest House of Sport locations.

"We are creating a modern, dynamic retail experience that pulses with energy and creativity, giving visitors compelling opportunities to connect, and more reasons to visit, linger. eat and shop,” said Todd Majcher, executive VP at Lowe, the real estate firm that purchased Mission Valley in July 2023 alongside Retail Capital Solutions. “Dick’s House of Sport will amplify that spirit with the wealth of delightful new experiences it will offer guests at the newly renamed Mission Valley shopping center, which will now be called The Valley.”

Lowe and Real Capital Solutions are in the process of transforming the 1.1 million-sq.-ft. retail center into a “vibrant” lifestyle center. House of Sport will join existing tenants including Target, Nordstrom Rack, Michael’s, Bloomingdale’s Outlet, 24-Hour Fitness and more.

Chicagoland

Dick’s also plans to open a House of Sport location at Rock Run Collection, a 310-acre mixed-use center currently under development in Joliet, Ill. It will mark the second House of Sport location in the state, and its first in greater Chicagoland. When fully constructed, Rock Run will feature 500,000 square feet of retail, 200,000 square feet of entertainment, 150,000 square feet of office space and 570 multifamily units.

“We continue to be very thoughtful about where we bring this concept,” said Vince Corno, senior VP of real estate for Dick’s House of Sport. “Rock Run Collection provides the kind of regional draw and visibility that allows House of Sport to become a true destination.”

Later this year, Dick’s will open a 116,000-sq.-ft. House of Sport location at Annapolis Mall, Maryland’s second-largest shopping center.

Dick's House of Sport format provides customers with an expanded assortment of products along with in-store experiences including a climbing wall, multiple golf bays with TrackMan simulators, an outdoor track and field and a multi-sport cage that can be used for baseball, softball, lacrosse and soccer. The concept allows shoppers to try out products before purchase.

Founded in 1948 and headquartered in Pittsburgh, Dick’s Sporting Goods operates more than 850 Dick’s Sporting Goods, Golf Galaxy, Public Lands and Going Going Gone! Stores nationwide.
