Dick’s House of Sport finally finds Chicagoland
Chicagoland has finally landed a House of Sport.
It will be situated about 20 miles southwest of downtown Chicago at Rock Run Collection, a 310-acre mixed-use center owned and operated by East Peoria, Ill.-based Cullinan Properties.
Located at the intersection of Interstates 80 and 55 in Joliet, Rock Run will feature 500,000 square feet of retail, 200,000 square feet of entertainment, 150,000 square feet of office space, and 570 multifamily units when fully constructed.
Its entertainment anchor will be the Hollywood Casino Joliet.
With 230,000 vehicles projected to pass daily, Rock Run has super-regional access from central Illinois, Iowa, and Indiana markets with a metro reach into Chicago, according to Cullinan. A new interchange is now open, providing direct access to the project from I-55.
“Rock Run Collection is already delivering value to the community through new residents, increased visitors from a large radius, and growing business activity,” said Diane Cullinan Oberhelman, chairman of Cullinan Properties. “This approval allows us to build on that success by adding an experience that supports jobs and generates additional revenue.”
Rock Run Collection’s food and beverage collection will feature six bars and seven restaurants, two of which will be run by James Beard award-winning Giada De Laurentiis and Stephanie Izard.
Cullinan noted that Rock Run Collection will reach a trade area of more than 10 million people within a 100-mile drive.
A key driver of that momentum has been the success of Hollywood Casino Joliet, which is open and operating and has attracted under-21 customers with its entertainment and dining offerings, according to Cullinan.
Vince Corno, senior VP of real estate for Dick’s House of Sport, is eager to have its second Illinois (the first being in Champaign) situated in Chicagoland.
“We continue to be very thoughtful about where we bring this concept,” Corno said. “Rock Run Collection provides the kind of regional draw and visibility that allows House of Sport to become a true destination.”
Cullinan chief strategy officer Maria Pope Toliopoulos noted that the signing of Dick’s HOS has served to attract other high visibility tenants.
“This is an expansion of something that is already working,” she said. “House of Sport will join Hollywood Casino, Chipotle, Drury Plaza Hotel, Ricky Rockets, Culvers, Chick-fil-A and more.”
