The developer of the lifestyle center executes a name re-change
Four years ago, the Memphis-based developer that pioneered a new retail real estate concept called “the lifestyle center” entered into a partnership with JLL that would allow it to use its expertise that asset class to develop and operate more centers. Poag Shopping Centers became Poag Development Group.
This week, however, company CEO Josh Poag, whose father Dan Poag co-founded the company, was proud to announce a name re-change.
“We had been Poag Shopping Centers for decades” Poag said. “This brings our identity back in line with who we are and where we are headed.”
Poag and JLL are addressing what both see as a gap in retail real estate by providing tailored management services for smaller open-air centers combining Poag’s open-air center expertise and JLL’s national platform and resources.
Poag Shopping Centers developed some of the earliest and most influential lifestyle centers in the United States, including the very first center to carry that asset denomination—Illinois’ Deer Park Town Center. Other Poag properties include The Promenade Shops at Briargate in Colorado and Tanger Outlets Southaven in Mississippi.
During its relationship with JLL, Poag provided retail representation and mixed-use strategy expertise for Sand Hill Property Company’s The Rise in Silicon Valley.
“Through our full-service platform and our partnership with JLL, we are able to deliver these capabilities to owners in a way that is highly customized and performance-driven,” Poag said. “This rebrand reflects the full breadth of our capabilities and reinforces our commitment to delivering exceptional value for our owners, tenants, and partners.”
Poag’s newest development project, Avenue One in Omaha, is a 233,000-sq.-ft. lifestyle center that will house brands including West Elm, Arhaus, Pottery Barn, Barnes & Noble, and Perry’s Steakhouse and Grille.
