    The retail world takes center stage this week as financial markets are poised to dissect a slew of earnings reports from major retailers who will be sharing details on the profitability of holiday sales, perspective on the state of the economic recovery and the outlook for consumer spending during the remainder of 2011.

  • Passco names regional marketing representative

    Irvine, Calif. -- Passco Cos. LLC announced that Brad McCord has been hired as regional marketing representative for the company.

    McCord will act as an internal licensed wholesaler and work closely with the sales teams and their marketing efforts.

  • Retailers report solid January sales despite winter deluge

    New York City -- Many retailers surprised with solid January revenue reporting on Thursday, despite snowstorms that raged across the country during the month.

    The reports, many of which surpassed Wall Street expectations, offer encouragement that strength in consumer spending is continuing after a merry holiday season.
     
    Costco Wholesale Corp, Victoria's Secret parent Limited Brands and teen retailer Wet Seal were among those that beat analyst expectations. Target, however, lagged, behind.

  • BlackSand Capital acquires Pearlridge Uptown II

    Honolulu, Hawaii -- Colliers Monroe Friedlander, an affiliate of Colliers International, said that BlackSand Capital, LLC, a Hawaii-based real estate investment firm, acquired Pearlridge Uptown II from Inspiration International, LLC.

  • Urban Retail names exec

    Chicago -- Urban Retail Properties, LLC announced the appointment of John N. Christen as executive VP director of new business development.

    Christen has been actively engaged in the commercial real estate industry in several capacities for over 15 years, most recently as founder of Christen Realty Capital, LLC.
     

  • Coldwater Creek names president and chief merchandising officer

    Sandpoint, Idaho -- Coldwater Creek announced that Jill Brown Dean has been appointed president and chief merchandising officer, effective Feb. 14. She succeeds Georgia Shonk Simmons who previously announced her intention to retire.

    Dean joins Coldwater Creek with over 25 years of retail and merchandising experience in the specialty retail sector. She most recently served as president of the Limited Too division of Tween Brands.

  • Laila Rowe to open Wall Street location

    New York City -- Winick Realty Group LLC said that jewelry and accessory retailer Laila Rowe has leased its first downtown Manhattan location at 99 Wall Street, between Front Street and Water Street.

    Laila Rowe currently has 17 retail stores on the East Coast.

    The 520-sq.-ft. space is on the ground floor and includes a partial basement.

  • Urban Retail names finance exec

    Chicago -- Urban Retail Properties LLC said Tuesday it has appointed Samuel J. Greenblatt as principal, finance/capital markets. Greenblatt’s primary role will be to raise capital and foster financial relationship opportunities for the company.

    Prior to his role with Urban, Greenblatt was executive VP and director of originations of RAIT Financial Trust, a NYSE traded mortgage real estate investment trust.
