Chico's FAS' profit and revenue declined in the second quarter amid same-store declines across all its banners.      The women's apparel retailer also named Mary van Praag as president of Soma, effective September 5, 2017.  She most recently served as CEO of Perricone MD. Prior to that, she held senior executive roles at Coty, and Johnson & Johnson's beauty division.

Arizona: The state supreme court rejected an attempt to nullify a voter-approved statewide wage law that went into effect Jan. 2017. The mandate requires employers to provide three days of paid leave and increases the minimum wage to $12/hr. by 2020. The current statewide wage is $10/hr.

Federal $15/Hr Minimum Wage . As promised, U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders with support from Democratic Leadership introduced a bill this week to raise the federal hourly minimum wage to $15 by 2024 to index it to inflation starting in 2025. Passage is highly unlikely, although Democratic leadership has vowed to make the Fight for $15 a larger focus of the party platform.
 

Chico's FAS gave a downbeat outlook amid first quarter earnings and sales that missed Wall Street estimates.    The women's apparel retailer reported net income of $33.6 million, or $0.26 per diluted share, in the period ended April 30, compared to net income of $31.1 million, or $0.23 per diluted share, in the year-ago period. Analysts had estimated earnings per share of 29 cents for the quarter.

The  retail community has had a curious relationship with the Ivanka Trump brand over the last year or two. Some prominent brands proudly display her clothing, shoe and accessories lines. Others carry it, but really don’t highlight it too much, and some have decided  to drop it all together.
