    Walmart’s Japanese subsidiary Seiyu plans to close 30 stores and remodel 50 others next year in an effort to strengthen its every day low price strategy.

    Bentonville, Ark. – Wal-Mart Stores Inc plans to close about 30 underperforming Seiyu stores in Japan. Wal-Mart first invested in Seiyu in 2002 and took full control of the chain in 2008.  
  • The future of Walmart store layout and design

    Veteran Walmart store planner Jay Mitchael is a featured speaker at an upcoming event organized by Doing Business in Bentonville.

    Mitchael, vp of store layout and space productivity at Walmart, is scheduled to speak Thursday, Nov. 13 at the Doing Business in Bentonville event which runs from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. in Rogers, Ark. Among the topics the organization said he will address are changes in store design, current prototype rollout and something called the space capture project.

  • Report: Wal-Mart testing holiday price-matching

    Bentonville, Ark. –- Wal-Mart is reportedly testing a price-matching program it may use for the upcoming holiday season. According to the Wall Street Journal, Wal-Mart is currently piloting price-matching with local competitors in brick-and-mortar stores but may expand the program nationally and include online competitors like Amazon.com.  
  • South Pasadena Shopping Center selects RSA as leasing rep

    Lakeland, Fla. -- Retail Solutions Advisors (RSA) has been selected as the exclusive leasing representative for South Pasadena Shopping Center, a community shopping center situated in South Pinellas County, Fla. The 165,928-sq.-ft. center is anchored by Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market, Bealls Outlet, Pet Supermarket, CVS and Dollar Tree, and serves as the primary grocery-anchored retail center for the surrounding residential community in the captive South Pasadena area.   
  • Regis, Red Wing refresh store systems with Insight

    Minneapolis –- Hair salon chain Regis Corp. and specialty footwear retailer Red Wing Shoes both recently engaged Insight Inc. to refresh their store systems.

     

    Regis rolled out the Insight Retail Ready program to refresh its network infrastructure, server, wireless and points of sale in more than 2,000 U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico SmartStyle salons located in Wal-Mart stores. 

  • Wal-Mart enters used video game market

    Bentonville, Ark. –- Wal-Mart Stores Inc., which launched a video game trade-in program in March 2014, is now building on the program by offering used video games for sale in 1,700 stores. These games will be sold in their own section or alongside other value titles.  
  • Report: Wal-Mart apologizes for online ‘fat girl’ costumes

    Bentonville, Ark. –- Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has reportedly apologized for offering Halloween outfits labeled as “fat girl” costumes on its e-commerce site. According to Bloomberg, Wal-Mart issued the apology after receiving social media criticism from offended consumers.
