  • Walmart, Hobby Lobby tops in faith-friendly retailer list

    Walmart and Hobby Lobby top the retailer list of the first ever annual Faith Equality Index.

    Faith Driven Consumer, a group that represents 41 million Christian consumers, has published an index rating the faith compatibility of major brands both in the consumer and entertainment spheres, as well as serving as a voice for this community.

  • Study: Major retailers lacking in online satisfaction

    When it comes to satisfying online customers, the little guys may have an edge. Online review site Bizrate Insights (a division of marketing solutions firm Connexity) has released its 16th annual Bizrate Circle of Excellence awards, and only a few major retailers are included.

  • Vitamin Shoppe profit tops Street; on track for 50 stores

    North Bergen, N.J. -- Vitamin Shoppe Inc. had a tough quarter but its earnings still beat the Street.

    The retailer on Wednesday reported second-quarter net income of $14.2 million, down from $16.9 million in the year-ago period, but still topping Wall Street expectations.

    The company also said it plans 50 new stores in 2015.

    Revenue increased 5.3% to $322.3 million in the period, short of analysts’ forecasts for $327.9 million.

  • Vitamin Shoppe names Toys ‘R’ Us vet as general counsel

    North Bergen. N.J. - Vitamin Shoppe Inc. hired David M. Kastin as senior VP, general counsel and corporate secretary effective Aug. 17. Kastin will be responsible for overseeing all internal and external legal matters of the company and will serve as corporate secretary to Vitamin Shoppe's board of directors.  

  • Vitamin Shoppe to sponsor health expos

    The Vitamin Shoppe is hoping to attract more health-conscious shoppers by sponsoring a health expo this month at all 700 of its stores.

    All Vitamin Shoppe stores across the country will host a "Share the Health" Expo from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Each store will provide samples of healthy goodies, offer consultations with local wellness partners, plus tips and recipes for healthy living this summer. The first 50 shoppers at each store will receive a free gift bag with product samples from a selection of brands.

  • Vitamin Shoppe plans 60 new stores; boosts Q4 profit

    North Bergen, N.J. – Vitamin Shoppe Inc. expects to open about 60 new stores during fiscal 2015. This plan follows a successful fourth quarter of fiscal 2014, with a net income increase of 3% to $11.6 million from $11.2 million the same period the prior year.

    A lower selling, general and administrative (SG&A) rate helped boost net income. Total net sales increased 13% to $290.1 million compared to $256.4 million. Same-store sales grew 1.7% and e-commerce same-store sales rose 5.6%.

  • Walmart offering cash pickup option for tax refunds

    Bentonville, Ark. -- In its newest move to offer more in-store financial services, Walmart is offering shoppers the option to pick up their tax refunds in cash. The new service, called Walmart Direct2Cash, is available nationwide starting Jan. 20.

    According to Walmart, the option will help customers save time and money when compared to traditional tax refund options. Many people without traditional bank accounts must pay sometimes high check-cashing fees to cash their tax refund checks, the retailer noted.

  • Wal-Mart teams up with Green Dot to offer low-cost checking accounts

    Bentonville, Ark. – Wal-Mart Stores is moving deeper into financial services. The retailer is launching an exclusive checking account product, called GoBank, with Green Dot Corp., a prepaid-cards specialist that has a subsidiary bank. Wal-Mart already offers a prepaid debit card, credit card, check cashing and money transfers.
