Vitamin Shoppe plans 60 new stores; boosts Q4 profit

2/24/2015

North Bergen, N.J. – Vitamin Shoppe Inc. expects to open about 60 new stores during fiscal 2015. This plan follows a successful fourth quarter of fiscal 2014, with a net income increase of 3% to $11.6 million from $11.2 million the same period the prior year.

A lower selling, general and administrative (SG&A) rate helped boost net income. Total net sales increased 13% to $290.1 million compared to $256.4 million. Same-store sales grew 1.7% and e-commerce same-store sales rose 5.6%.

"Throughout the year, the vitamin, mineral and supplements industry faced many headwinds,” said Tony Truesdale, CEO. “Although our comparable sales were not as robust as we had become accustomed to, our broad product selection and attractive value proposition enabled us to deliver our 37th consecutive quarter and 21st consecutive year of positive comparable sales."

For the full year, Vitamin Shoppe reported an 8% drop in net income to $61.24 million from $66.55 million. Net sales rose 11% to $1.21 billion from $1.09 billion.

During fiscal 2015, Vitamin Shoppe expects a net sales increase of approximately 10% and total same-store sales growth, including e-commerce, of 2% - 4%.
