  • Urban Outfitters surprises in Q3 on strong earnings, sales

    Urban Outfitters on Monday reported sales and earnings that blew past Wall Street estimates, fueled in part by a strong performance from its Free People brand and online sales.

    Anthropologie has brought its large format retail concept, Anthropologie & Co., to the new Bedford Square development in downtown Westport, Connecticut.    The 35,000-sq.-ft. store boasts dedicated spaces for clothing, footwear, furniture, jewelry, home decor, and more — accented with one-of-a-kind decor from the retailer's talented visual team. It also features a beauty boutique and wedding gown department.  
  • Mickey Drexler out as CEO of J.Crew Group

    It is the end of an era in retail. One of the most prominent — and legendary — chief executives in retail is stepping down.   Millard “Mickey” Drexler will step down after almost 15 years as J. Crew’s CEO as of July. He will continue in his role as chairman. Drexler is the former CEO of Gap Inc., which he built into a retail powerhouse. He was abruptly fired in 2002 by Gap founder Donald Fisher amid slumping sales and the chain's falling stock. (Prior to Gap, Drexler oversaw a turnaround of Ann Taylor.)
  • Urban Outfitters posts double-digital sales growth in online channel

    Urban Outfitters Inc. ended its fiscal year more or less on target.    The retailer on Tuesday reported net income of $64.3 million, or 55 cents a share, just one cent shy of analysts’ estimates, and down from $72.9 million, or 61 cents a share, in the year ago period.   Total net sales rose 2% to $1.03 billion, matching Street forecasts.

    Urban Outfitter Inc. turned in a better-than-expected performance in the second quarter amid increased sales and fewer promotions and markdowns.   “Urban has now regained its position as the brand leader for young people,” said Urban Outfitters CEO Richard A. Haynes during the chain’s quarterly conference call.  
  • Lifestyle retailer to open flagship at Mall of America

    Anthropologie is coming to Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota, in a big way.

    The brand, a division of Urban Outfitters, will open a 10,000-sq.-ft. flagship on the mall’s expanded first level. It is expected to open in time for the holiday season.
