  • Kroger launches Honoring Our Heroes campaign

    CINCINNATI — Kroger plans to provide $2.3 million to support the USO's broad range of programs that assist service members and their families, as part of its Honoring Our Heroes campaign.

    For the following two weeks, store-wide promotions will feature hundreds of popular products at special sale prices. Customized shelf tags will highlight participating items, including Kroger's own products and items from key partners, including Unilever, Coca Cola, Kraft, Nestle, Frito Lay, Procter & Gamble, ConAgra and Dannon. Start and end dates vary by region.

    GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. — Dollar General is gearing up for a nationwide career fair to be held at 170 locations in 40 states Saturday, May 18. The event is part of the retailer's efforts to hire 10,000 new employees in May.

  • 300 food banks benefit from Walmart’s fight-hunger campaign

    Bentonville, Ark. — Walmart and its philanthropic arm, the Walmart Foundation, were busy working alongside notable food companies in April, as part of the corporation’s Fighting Hunger Together Initiative. 

    Between April 1 and April 30, more than 443,000 votes were cast for the more than 300 eligible Feeding America food banks and partner agencies as part of the campaign, which fights hunger in local communities.

  • NACDS, foundation announce new board members

    PALM BEACH, Fla. — During the National Association of Chain Drug Stores Annual Meeting today, the association elected the new officers, two new executive committee members and four new board of directors members for the coming year. The NACDS Foundation also announced the addition of five new members. 

    Robert Narveson, president and CEO of Thrifty White Pharmacy, was elected as the new NACDS chairman of the board of directors, succeeding Gregory Wasson, president and CEO of Walgreens.

    ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. — Unilever United States and Canada has achieved 100% zero waste to landfill in all 26 of its manufacturing and non-manufacturing headquarter facilities. Other countries in which Unilever has achieved this milestone include the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, Germany and Japan.

  • Haven Riverfront to open at Edgewater Harbor

    Edgewater, N.J. -- North Plainfield, N.J.-based Levin Management Corp. said that Haven Riverfront Restaurant & Bar will open a 6,500-sq.-ft. location at Edgewater Harbor, in Edgewater, N.J.

    The new restaurant, opening in June, becomes the latest eatery to join the dining component at the mixed-use development on Hudson County’s Gold Coast, according to Levin, the exclusive retail leasing agent for the property.
