  • Sears appoints high-tech exec as new CEO; Q4 profits fall but beat Street

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. -- Sears Holdings Corp. reported on Wednesday that it has ended a three-year search for a permanent CEO, appointing a former technology executive with no retail experience as its new chief executive and president. The company name Lou D’Ambrosio to the position of president and CEO.

    Sears Holdings named Lou D’Ambrosio its new CEO in conjunction with the release of fourth-quarter results that sales and profits decline, as a 2.5% same-store sales increase at Kmart was not enough to offset a 4.5% comp decline at Sear’s flagship stores.

  • Kmart emphasizes flu shots at its pharmacies

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Kmart on Monday implemented a discounted offer on flu shots to those who have not yet been vaccinated.

    Kmart said it is offering customers $15 flu shots, while supplies last, and also will offer 15,000 points (a $15 value) to members of its Shop Your Way Rewards loyalty program, when a vaccination is purchased.

    The flu shots are available at more than 500 Kmart Pharmacy locations and are administered by trained practitioners.

An exclusive line of plus-size apparel is launching this month at Kmart under the LYS brand names, which stands for love your style and love your size. The LYS collection is said to feature trend forward separates that are designed to flatter plus-size women of all shapes and sizes including printed halters, skinny jeans and tunic dresses.

  • Charming Charlie to open at Kentucky Oaks Mall

    Paducah, Ky. -- Youngstown, Ohio-based Cafaro Co. announced that Charming Charlie will open a new fashion accessories store at Kentucky Oaks Mall, in Paducah, Ky.

    The Houston-based retailer will open a 7,000-sq.-ft. store in late spring 2011. This will be the second Charming Charlie store in Kentucky, the first being located in the Lexington area.

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill.  -- Sears announced that it has launched Beverly Drive, a new plus-size women's fashion line. Making its debut this month, the line will be available at Sears stores nationwide, as well as online at www.Sears.com.

The possible sale of BJ’s and its 189 clubs isn’t likely to have a meaningful impact on the marketplace and could potentially benefit the likes of Sam’s Club and Costco.

  • Sears names head of Kenmore, Craftsman and DieHard brands

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. -- Sears Holdings announced that as part of the continuing transformation of the company, Scott Freidheim has been appointed EVP, president Kenmore, Craftsman and DieHard.

    "Scott is a strong leader who will heighten our focus on our Kenmore, Craftsman and Diehard brands," said Bruce Johnson, interim CEO and president of Sears Holdings. "I believe he will be a tremendous asset to this business as we drive new ideas forward."
