  • Simon named to lease, manage and market Fox Run Mall

    Newington, N.H. -- Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group said it will assume leasing, management and marketing duties of the Fox Run Mall, located in Newington, N.H., effective May 15.

    The enclosed regional shopping center, built in February 1983, is anchored by Macy’s, J.C. Penney and Sears. Other tenants include Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister, Express, Loft, Limited, Men’s Wearhouse, American Eagle Outfitters and Victoria’s Secret.

    The center totals 604,000 sq. ft. and is situated on nearly 70 acres.

  • With 90 stores on tap for 2011, Big Lots appoints executive VPs

    New York City -- Big Lots, which plans to open 90 stores this year, has made two key merchandising moves to facilitate its planned growth.

    The retailer has hired former Sears merchandising executive Doug Wurl to serve as its executive VP merchandising. He assumes responsibilities previously held by John Martin, who was named executive VP administration. In his new role, Martin will have responsibility for store operations and human resources.

  • Stardust Arcade opens at Boynton Beach Mall

    Boynton Beach, Fla. -- Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group announced that Stardust Arcade, an adult penny redemption arcade, has opened at Boynton Beach Mall, in Boynton Beach, Fla.

    The 10,000-sq.-ft. space features 150 machines within a Las Vegas-style setting showcasing faux Roman columns, marble details and hand-painted Greek themed murals created by Florida Atlantic University’s Arts Professor Jim Crane and his fine art students.

  • Major moves at Big Lots

    COLUMBUS, Ohio -- After opening 80 stores last year and with plans for another 90 units this year, Big Lot’s made several merchandising moves to facilitate its planned growth.

    The nation’s leading closeout retailer announced it has hired former Sears merchandising executive Doug Wurl to serve as its EVP merchandising. He assumes responsibilities previously held by John Martin who was named EVP administration with responsibility for store operations and human resources.

  • Bon-Ton to open new Carson’s in Markland Mall

    Kokomo Ind. -- The Bon-Ton Stores said Thursday that it has signed a letter of intent with Simon Property Group for a 60,000-sq.-ft. facility at Markland Mall, located in Kokomo, Ind.

    According to the department store retailer, the existing building will be remodeled by November, at which time Bon-Ton will open a new store under the Carson’s nameplate, replacing its current Elder-Beerman store presently located in Kokomo Mall.

  • Sears feeling pretty about new beauty department

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill.  -- Sears is looking to position itself as a beauty leader, by announcing Monday the installment of new cosmetics departments at more than 100 locations and Sears.com.

    According to the company, these refreshed beauty departments will feature products from such brands as L'Oreal, Maybelline, Revlon, CoverGirl, Sally Hansen, Essie and Nicole by OPI. Additionally, beauty advisers staffing the departments will offer makeup tips and advice to customers who desire assistance in perfecting their look, Sears reported.
