Tractor Supply Company has grown its footprint to 1,700 stores.

For Tractor Supply Company, buy-online-pickup-in-store is proving a win-win, for both itself and its customers.    With more than 1,600 stores in 49 states, Tractor Supply is the nation's largest operator of stores dedicated to a rural lifestyle. Online and offline, it offers a wide range of merchandise, from welders and generators to an-imal care products to men and women's workwear. Stores are typically located in towns outlying major metropolitan markets and in rural com-munities.   

Tractor Supply Company reported declines in first quarter comp-store sales and net income as mild weather reduced sales of winter products.    "Due to the challenging weather conditions, we were unable to offset the strong seasonal performance from last year's first quarter," said CEO Greg Sandfort. "As the weather has normalized over the past few weeks, we are encouraged with how the customer has responded and believe there is significant spring business ahead of us."  

Tractor Supply Company shot up by the double-digits in the fourth quarter, with net sales jumping 16.4% over the year-ago quarter.   "While it was obviously a challenging retail environment, our Tractor Supply team managed the business well and drove strong comparable store sales and earnings per share growth," said CEO Greg Sandfort. "Throughout the quarter, the team worked hard to take advantage of weather trends, localize assortments, manage inventory and shorten the supply chain."  

Tractor Supply Company is celebrating the opening of its 1,600th store, which opened in Brentwood, Calif.   The new store will hold its grand opening on Saturday, Feb. 4th.  

The NRF Foundation has brought together leading retailers and non-profits to launch a job training and credentialing initiative called Rise Up (Retail Industry Skills & Education).   The program is designed to help people — regardless of education, background, economic means or age — acquire the skills they need to secure jobs in retail and advance into promising careers in every aspect of retail, from in-store to digital and mobile commerce, according to the NRF.  

Logistics and supply chain executives from such retail powerhouses as Walmart, Target, Hudson’s Bay Company,  7-Eleven, Neiman Marcus, and The Home Depot will be among the speakers at the Retail Industry Leaders Association’s annual Retail Supply Chain Conference.

Farm-and-ranch industry leader Tractor Supply has always been interested in the pet business, and it even operates two standalone HomeTown Pet stores in Tennessee.

Phillips Edison Grocery Center REIT I Inc. is acquiring a grocery-anchored shopping center, expanding the company’s holdings in Massachusetts.

Northwoods Crossing is a 159,562-sq.-ft. grocery store-anchored shopping center in Taunton, Massachusetts, a suburb 40 miles south of Boston. The center is anchored by BJ’s Wholesale Club. It also features national and regional tenants such as Tractor Supply Company, Dollar Tree, Subway, Ruby Tuesday and Wendy’s.

Brentwood, Tennessee-based rural lifestyle chain Tractor Supply Company saw net income, net sales and same-store sales all rise in the first quarter of fiscal 2016, compared to the prior-year period.

Net income increased 17% to $67.7 million from $58 million, despite a 10% increase in selling, general and administrative (SG&A) expenses to $386.2 million from $351.8 million. Higher gross profit and pretax income helped boost net income.
