  • DHGate.com hires new executive team

    San Francisco - DHgate.com, an e-commerce marketplace focused on cross-border trade of Chinese goods, has hired several new executives. These include COO Noah Herschmann, who previously held management roles at Amazon, Groupon, Asia, Staples China and Tweeter.

  • Starbucks opens in Colombia

    Seattle – Starbucks opens its first store in Colombia on July 16. The three-story location in the capital city of Bogota is the first of 50 stores Starbucks plans to open in Colombia by 2019.

  • Capri Capital Partners launches Capri Retail Advisors

    Chicago — Capri Capital Partners has formed Capri Retail Advisors, an affiliate that will focus on retail opportunities in underserved and evolving retail trade areas in strategically selected major U.S. metropolitan markets.

    Ross Glickman, former chairman and CEO of Urban Retail Properties, has been named president and CEO of the new affiliate. Ken Lombard, former president of the Starbucks in-store entertainment division and also former president of Magic Johnson’s urban retail real estate development company, is chairman and chief investment officer.

  • Scanbuy reinvents ScanLife app

    Scanbuy, a leading mobile engagement solutions provider, has upgraded its ScanLife app for Android and iOS devices, giving consumers the opportunity to receive personalized deals and promotions as well as rewards based on their scanning activity via the app’s recommendation engine.

  • Summer Buzz

    Unlike most consumers, the retail industry doesn’t take a holiday in the summer. As we head into July, three very different retail companies are very much in the news. One has the industry all abuzz over who will be its next chief, while another has launched a pioneering employee initiative. And the newly appointed chief of the third wants to turn a cult L.A. brand into a global powerhouse. I’m fascinated by all three:

  • Macy’s adds Starbucks exec to board

    Macy’s has added Annie Young-Scrivner, EVP of Starbucks Coffee Company and president of its Teavana business, to its board of directors.

  • Starbucks shakes up afternoons with soda, sandwiches

    Seattle – Starbucks appears to be targeting afternoon shoppers with new soda and sandwich offerings. Starting June 24, Starbucks is expanding its cold beverage portfolio with the addition of Fizzio handcrafted sodas at about 3,500 U.S. locations.

    Fizzio sodas are carbonated fresh behind the counter and debut in three flavors. Starbucks estimates the global carbonated beverage market is worth $415 billion.

  • Starbucks, Downtown Disney West Side, Orlando, Florida

    Starbucks Corp. has opened its first company-operated store at Walt Disney World Resort, a nearly 4,000-sq.-ft. site at Downtown Disney West Side in Orlando, Florida.
