CVS Pharmacy has expanded its footprint in Illinois.

Struggling Marsh Supermarkets is looking for a buyer, but it doesn’t have all that much time.    The 86-year-old grocery store chain on Thursday filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, and said it is seeking a buyer for all or part of its business.  The company’s 44 locations will continue normal operations throughout the process.  But the stores will be shuttered if the company does not find a buyer within 60 days.  

A grocery distributor and retailer is expanding its supply chain management team.   SpartanNash named Tom Lee as senior VP, supply chain. In his new role, he will be responsible for overseeing SpartanNash’s supply chain, logistics, transportation and inventory management departments.   

CVS Pharmacy continues to make a concerted effort to transform its stores, with the goal of fostering a better customer experience.   The retailer on Wednesday officially unveiled a new store design to enhance the retail customer experience with a new assortment of healthier food, health-focused products and expanded beauty selections, paired with informational signage throughout the store to help customers discover new offerings. The retailer hosted an event at The Garage in New York City on Wednesday to showcase the enhancements firsthand.

Amazon has launched a new way for customers to shop its site without using a bank card or credit card.    Called Amazon Cash, the service allows consumers to add cash to their Amazon.com balance by showing a barcode at a participating brick-and-mortar store, with the cash then applied immediately to the consumer’s  online Amazon account.  Notably, Walmart already offers a similar type of service for customers without a credit or debit card, as does PayPal.   

CVS Health on Thursday appointed 26-year company veteran Jonathan C. Roberts executive to the new position of executive VP and COO.     As COO, Roberts, who currently serves as president of CVS Caremark, the company's pharmacy benefit management business, will have responsibility for consolidating operational oversight across CVS Health's unique suite of assets.     

After a test, CVS Health is launching its mobile payment solution, CVS Pay, on a national basis.    CVS Pay is now part of the CVS Pharmacy mobile app, and integrates payment, prescription pickup and the ExtraCare loyalty program all into one quick scan at checkout.
