  • ODP takes top spot for retail energy efficiency

    BOCA RATON, Fla. — Office Depot has announced that Office Depot stores in Plano, Texas; Raleigh, N.C.; and Tallahassee, Fla. won the top three spots for retail energy efficiency gains in the 2011 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Energy Star National Building Competition. The Plano and Raleigh stores were also the only retailers in the overall top ten list, according to the company.

    Boca Raton, Fla. -- Office Depot said Monday that it has promoted current executive VP, corporate strategy and new business development Steve Schmidt to the position of president international.

    Schmidt, who will report to CEO Neil Austrian, will oversee Office Depot’s multichannel International business.

    BOCA RATON, Fla. — Office Depot announced that Steve Schmidt has been named president international. Schmidt, who previously served as EVP corporate strategy and new business development, will continue to report to Neil Austrian, chairman and CEO of Office Depot.

    Schmidt will oversee Office Depot’s multichannel (contract, direct and retail) international business that sells to customers directly or through affiliates in 56 countries outside of the U.S. and Canada.

  • ODP promotes small business with third-annual catalog

    BOCA RATON, Fla. — Office Depot announced that it has released its third annual Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUB) catalog, which highlights select HUB suppliers and an assortment of more than 1,600 items ranging from safety and medical supplies to staplers and technology products.

    The HUB catalog features Office Depot’s complete assortment of products sold by HUB vendors and is available to Office Depot’s Business Solutions Division (BSD) customers.

  • Office Depot profit doubles on one-time gains; adjusted results miss Street

    Boca Raton, Fla. -- Office Depot's fiscal third-quarter net income more than doubled, but its adjusted results missed analysts’ expectations amid sales declines in North America.

    The company earned $91.7 million for the period ended Sept. 24, compared with $32 million a year earlier. But excluding $6 million in restructuring charges and other costs and a $99 million tax benefit, the company lost about $700,000, or break-even per share.

  • ODP delivers earnings growth, but sales weak

    BOCA RATON, Fla. — Office Depot delivered higher profits for its third quarter, but sales were down thanks in part to weak comps at its North American retail division. Office Depot reported that total company sales for the third quarter of 2011 were $2.8 billion, a 2% decrease compared with the third quarter of 2010. Net earnings for the quarter were $92 million, or 28 cents per diluted share, compared with $32 million or 12 cents per diluted share for the same period last year.

    Boca Raton, Fla. -- Office Depot announced the launch of Office Depot Merchant Services, an electronic payment processing service for small and medium-sized businesses.
