  • New York & Co. loss widens in Q3

    New York City -- New York & Co. reported Thursday that its loss widened in the third quarter to $6 million, from $4 million last year.

    Sales dropped to $216.7 million, compared with $238.2 million a year earlier. Same-store sales decreased 5.2%.

  • New York & Co. debuts holiday Facebook sweepstakes

    New York City -- New York & Co. said Tuesday it has launched its debut Facebook sweepstakes campaign, which it will promote through multiple social media outlets.

    The promotion, which runs Nov. 1 – Nov. 16, utilizes email, in-store signage, Facebook and Twitter, and awards a sweepstakes winner a trip for two to New York City, as well as provides gift cards to runners up.
     

  • Focus on: America’s Top Redevelopers

    In its seventh year, the annual Top Redevelopers survey took a little turn. Chain Store Age’s coverage of the prior year’s redevelopment highlights has been expanded to include an additional six-month period in order to make the results as current as possible. So, instead of covering redevelopment projects that occurred during calendar year 2010, this year’s results include the first six months of 2011, as well.

Fashion Week has become a chance for designers and retailers to bring the latest trends to the masses. 

  • Loehmann’s names CEO

    New York City -- Loehmann's Holdings announced  that Steven M. Newman has been appointed CEO.

    Newman, who will also be a member of Loehmann's board of directors, will join the company in the second week of June. He assumes the CEO role from interim CEO Joe Melvin who will remain as COO of the company.

  • New York & Co. narrows loss in Q1

    New York City -- New York & Co. reported Thursday a loss of $3.7 million in the first quarter, compared with a loss of $4.9 million a year ago.

    Sales rose to $239.4 million from $237 million. Same-store sales increased 2.5%.

    The company said it expects to close eight stores and remodel six existing locations, ending the second quarter of fiscal year 2011 with 545 stores, including 24 outlet stores.

  • Breach of trust

    NEW YORK -- If consumers were hesitant about providing personal information to retailers, they have even more reason to be paranoid as marketing firm Epsilon reported a number of breaches at several of its clients.

  • Chico's names senior marketing exec

    Fort Myers, Fla. -- Chico’s FAS announced Monday that it has named Celia Rao Visconti as senior VP of marketing.

    She will report directly to Cinny Murray, brand president of Chico's, and will oversee the brand's marketing strategy and initiatives. 

    Rao Visconti was previously executive VP and chief marketing officer for New York & Co.
