  • Mattress Firm perks up Q1 profit and sales; will open 220-240 stores

    Houston – Reductions in sales, general and administrative (SG&A) expenses, as well as in operating expenses, helped Mattress Firm Holding Corp. increase net income 41% to $7.72 million from $5.48 million the same quarter the prior fiscal year. The acquisition of 131 Back to Bed and Bedding Experts, Bedding Experts, and Mattress Barn stores in September 2014 drove a 69% jump in net sales to $562.6 million from $333.5 million.

    Same-store sales rose 1.3%. Mattress Firm plans to open 220-240 new stores during the fiscal year.

  • Tenant mix expanding at Shoppes at Blackstone Valley

    Millbury, Mass. -- Douglas Wine & Spirits, Visionworks and DSW are opening in early 2015 at The Shoppes at Blackstone Valley, in Millbury, Massachusetts.
     
    Douglas Wine & Spirits opened February 1st and occupies a 5,400-sq.-ft. space between Sleepy’s and Guitar Center. Visionworks will be in opening in March in a 2,700-sq.-ft. space between Sephora and Feng Asian Bistro.

    DSW will be making its appearance in early April in a 15,000-sq.-ft. space adjacent to Marshall’s.

  • Mattress Firm completes Sleep Train acquisition

    Houston –- Mattress Firm Holding Corp. has completed its $245 million acquisition of West Coast bedding specialty retailer The Sleep Train Inc. Sleep Train operates approximately 310 specialty mattress retail stores located in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada and Hawaii, and reported net sales of approximately $471 million for the 2013 fiscal year.  
  • Sleepy’s opens 1,000th store

    Hicksville, N.Y. --Sleepy's announced that with the grand opening of its new location in Joliet, Ill., the privately-owned mattress retailer's store count reached a landmark 1,000 stores. "It is with great pride that we announce our thousandth-store milestone," said Sleepy's president, David Acker. "Sleepy's has been around since 1957, and we are very proud of this latest accomplishment. It won't stop here."
  • Mattress Firm to open at Brookwood Village

    Birmingham, Ala. -- Brookwood Village, a mixed-use development located in the affluent Mountain Brook and Homewood area of Birmingham, Ala., announced that leading specialty bedding company Mattress Firm will join the shopping center’s merchant roster in 2015.       
  • Mattress Firm completes purchase of competitors

    Houston - Mattress Firm Holding Corp. has completed its acquisition of the mattress specialty retail assets and operations of Back to Bed Inc., M World Mattress LLC, MCStores LLC and TBE Orlando LLC, which collectively operate Back to Bed and Bedding Experts retail stores in Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin and Bedding Experts and Mattress Barn retail stores in Florida.
