    NEW YORK— The ax has fallen at JCPenney. The company on Thursday laid off 600 workers from its corporate headquarters Plano, Texas, as its looks to streamline its business model amid a major reinvention of the business. The staff reduction, which equaled 13% to 14% of the headquarters staff, did not include any senior executives, according to The New York Times.

    Boston -- Amazon.com is America's most relevant retailer, followed by Target, according to Brodeur Partners’ Retail Relevance Top 10 ranking. The study asked shoppers to look at 21 of the nation's top retailers and select the "most" and "least" personally relevant retailer in four specific areas: practicality, values, sensory appeal and social appeal.

  • Ulta to open at Sandusky Mall

    Sandusky, Ohio -- Youngstown, Ohio-based The Cafaro Co. said Tuesday that cosmetics retailer Ulta will open a store at its Sandusky Mall property, located in Sandusky, Ohio.

    Ulta’s new 11,000-sq.-ft. store is slated to open in the fourth quarter, bringing the Pavilion section of the complex to 100% occupancy.

    The 1+ million-sq.-ft. mall is anchored by Macy’s, Elder-Beerman, Sears, J.C. Penney, Target and Dick’s Sporting Goods, and features more than 90 other specialty shops.

    New York -- Target Corp. on Monday named Jeffrey Jones as executive VP and chief marketing officer, effective immediately. He succeeds Michael Francis who left the company in October to join J.C. Penney.
