  • Saks expands commitment to downtown Manhattan

    Saks Fifth Avenue has another store to its lineup at Brookfield Place in downtown Manhattan.

    The retailer, a division of Hudson’s Bay Company, said it will open a 16,750-sq.-ft. dedicated men’s store at the center, in spring 2017. As previously announced, Saks will open an 85,000-sq.-ft. full line store at Brookfield Place.

  • Hudson's Bay fights back weak sales trend

    Weak traffic at Saks 5th Avenue stores did not keep Hudson's Bay Company from reporting higher sales and profit in the third quarter.

    For the third quarter ended Oct. 31, the company posted a profit of $1 million, compared with a $13 million loss a year earlier. Total sales increased 34% to $2.57 billion, up from $1.91 billion. Consolidated sales growth was 34.1%, up $653 million from prior year with same-store sales growth of 12.9%. But Saks Fifth Avenue logged a same store sales decrease of 3.6%.

  • Saks Off 5th continuing Canadian expansion

    Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th is making progress in its plans to open up to 25 locations across Canada by 2018.

    The retailer announced three new locations in Canada: Toronto Premium Outlets, Halton Hills, Ontario; Rideau Street, Ottawa, Ontario; and Premium Outlets Montreal, Mirabel, Quebec City.

  • Another retailer jumps into the off-price game

    The off-price space is growing by leaps and bounds, with yet another department store retailer throwing its hat in the ring.

    Lord & Taylor will debut its new off-price concept, Find @ Lord & Taylor, on Nov. 19, in Paramus, New Jersey. The 30,000-sq.-ft. store will feature women’s, men’s, kids’ clothing and footwear, along with home goods. According to reports, the initial store will be followed by six additional locations next year.

  • Saks Off 5th to co-anchor new Chicago development

    Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th will open a store at Newcity, the newly opened mixed-use development located in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood.

    The 40,000-sq.-ft. store, which will be the seventh Off 5th location in Chicago, is scheduled to open in May 2016. The off-price retailer recently announced another spring 2016 store opening in Chicago, on State Street at the corner of State and Madison.

    It seems as though off-price is one of the few bright spots in traditional retail these days, so it's no wonder that Hudson’s Bay Company is adding another off-price concept to its portfolio.

  • NRF creates Digital Council

    The National Retail Federation has formed a Digital Council to focus on the e-commerce, mobile and innovative initiatives that exist within the retail industry today.

    The members-only council, powered by NRF’s Shop.org digital division, will support and promote collaboration in efforts like the exchange of information on digital retail trends and strategies, the development of original research, and educational events and advocacy opportunities in Washington, D.C.
