  • Making the Case for Strong Brands

    There is no substitute for a strong brand — whatever the sales channel. That’s the basic underlying premise of Interbrand’s annual “Best Retail Brands” report, which ranks the top 50 North American and international retailers by brand value. It’s a premise worth keeping in mind amid all the online versus offline talk. As Interbrand global CEO Jez Frampton puts it: “In the end, it is the brand, not the footprint, that will endure.”

  • Tuesday Morning names former Home Depot exec as general merchandise manager

    Dallas – Tuesday Morning Corp. has named Melissa Phillips as executive VP and general merchandise manager, effective immediately. She brings 15 years of buying and retail experience to Tuesday Morning. Since 2009, she has served as general manager for The Home Decorators Collection (HDC) at The Home Depot.
     

  • JLL brokers sale of Market Square in Akron, Ohio

    Atlanta — JLL has announced the closing of the sale of Market Square at Montrose on behalf of LaSalle Investment Management to HP Realty LLC. Purchased for $32.5 million, the 510,231-sq.-ft. retail center hosts anchors Home Depot, J.C. Penney, Levin Furniture, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Regal Cinemas, Toys “R” Us and Cost Plus World Market.

    “Akron and similar cities are back in favor with investors,” commented Kris Cooper, a JLL managing director.

  • Tuesday Morning taps former Home Depot exec as EVP, general merchandise manager

    Tuesday Morning Corporation has appointed former Home Depot executive Melissa Phillips as EVP and general merchandise manager. Phillips will report directly to CEO Michael Rouleau.

  • Inland’s IREIT acquires Texas and Florida centers

    Oak Brook, Ill. — Inland Real Estate Income Trust has acquired two shopping centers in Texas, and Florida, in separate transactions: Mansfield Pointe Shopping Center in Mansfield, Texas, and North Hills Square Shopping Center in Coral Springs, Fla.

    IREIT acquired the 148,529-sq.-ft. Mansfield Pointe for $28.4 million and the 63,829-sq.-ft. North Hills Square Shopping Center for $11.05 million.

  • Home Depot looks to win with water initiative

    To help customers save water and grow its sales in the process Home Depot will execute a massive customer education initiative later this month.

    Home Depot regularly holds in store clinics to arm customers with knowledge to tackle home improvement project and its newest initiative applies that thought process to a less familiar merchandise classification. On Saturday, April 26, every one of Home Depot’s 1,977 U.S. stores will host an hour and a half long “Water Conservation Workshop,” in which 10 home improvement projects will be covered.
